sand will not erase the truth. Those who showed their disrespect by not sitting to listen to his speech are the ones who needed to hear it most. The spin is in. The message is much bigger and more important than the messenger. His words in the mouth of someone else would be regarded as historical.

(114,904 posts)And how about his views on gay people? Religious beliefs again?
And it's your opinion that he's speaking some undying truth. don't attempt to speak for others, dear.

(146,409 posts)You see, you come here praising the man, without reservation, in your OP. When people point out the non-praiseworthy nonsense he speaks, you waffle. So, which is it. Is he praiseworthy or not praiseworthy? Think carefully before answering.

(114,904 posts)I put truth in quotes because truth is primarily a subjective concept. Do you understand why? Facts are objective though obviously they can be manipulated in a dishonest way, but "truth" is almost always opinion.
As for Ahmadinejad, he's said too many truly vile things to be taken seriously in any concept. This is a man who denies the Holocaust. Do you agree with him? Do you understand WHY that's vile? This is a man who supports killing gays. Do you agree with him? Do you even grasp why that's wrong.
I have no idea, as of yet, what he said in his U.N. speech, but even if every word is a priceless pearl of received wisdom, it doesn't negate his past utterances (and I mean near past) or what he's done.

(41,244 posts)Actually there is only one individual with real power over Ahmadinejad; it is the Ayatollah Khamenei. If Ahmadinejad really wanted to 'speak truth to power' he could tell Khamenei to stop being such a bloody theocratic right-winger, and refuse to propagandize for him any more. But if he did that, it would certainly be the end of his political life, and very possibly his actual life. But that could be speaking 'truth to power'; going off in a rant at the UN isn't.

I suggest you read E.M Forster's famous essay on tolerance. Easy to find on the internet. In no way, shape or form is Ahmadinejad tolerant of others or other viewpoints.
As for me, I don't support being tolerant of hate or haters.

(4,875 posts)Three Iranian men have been executed after being found guilty of charges related to homosexuality, according to a semi-official news agency.
The men, only identified by their initials, were hanged on Sunday in the south-western city of Ahvaz, the capital of Iran's Khuzestan province.
"The three convicts were sentenced to death based on the articles 108 and 110 of Iran's Islamic penal code, for acts against the sharia law and bad deeds," the Isna agency quoted a judiciary official in Khuzestan as saying.

(15 posts)You are correct. He did speak some truth and facts, but sadly when one is branded as an enemy no matter what he/she says or does,it is all regarded as garbage.
the fact is though no matter what, truth and justice will always prevail, one can hide the truth for long, but never forever, and whatever is done under the darkness of night, will surely come to light,as long as the sun rises,so one should not fear the truth,no matter who is telling it.
Iran's leader will reap what he sows, and so will everyone else.
We will all reap what we sow,no matter how clever we think we are in hiding it,no matter how rich and powerful and mighty we think we are, justice always prevail in the end

(114,904 posts)haters. If a person who is bigot says something truthful amidst all the garbage they spew, that doesn't redeem them as long as they keep spewing hate. And he does.
Like I said before,he will reap what he sows, just like everyone else, but that does not deny the truth or facts that Justice will prevail in the end, there is no denying that, even if he is the devil.
We also have a lot of hate full bigoted wing White supremest people right here in the US who also deny the holocaust and refer to Jews and other colored people,as " MUD people, are they better than Iran's leader?

The message was one of intolerance and mendacity, the messenger a crass idiot who believes in and promotes libels against minority groups.
cali
(114,904 posts)be so naive (or something) that they embrace his speech. I just read the Guardian summary and it sounds like the OP fell for some line about Ahmadinejad calling for peace and harmony, which is simply ironic given his history.

(42,061 posts)I listened to the speech, initially not knowing who it was (radio, late tune-in). You're right that his imagined world was a beautiful one, right up to the part where he began to blame "Zionists" and talk about women's sacredness (on which heir oppresion in his country is based) and the threats imposed on his peaceful people, who want to wipe Israel off the map. He is pining for something built out of a warped ideal, and using universal longings to persuade. It's the trick of any fundamentalist.

(32,886 posts)From my experience, Ahmadumbjerk fans are fans because they think everything the US and Israel do geopolitically is evil and thus because he is against the US and Israel he is great. They cannot focus on anything else about him, his homophobia, his holocaust denial, and all the rest are completely lost in their worship of someone they see as standing up to their perception of their two bogeymen.
Of course, that might just be overly generous to those folks. (even though they wouldnt see it as generous)
