Trump was given supplemental oxygen at the WH - NYT

?s=21

Two people close to the White House said in separate interviews that the president had trouble breathing on Friday and that his oxygen level dropped, prompting his doctors to give him supplemental oxygen while at the White House. @maggieNYT

He said Trump didn't get oxygen today. Then he refused to say he didn't get it yesterday. Then he said Trump didn't get oxygen on Thursday. So essentially, he admitted that Trump got oxygen yesterday.

Of course, I wish he would have been straight forward with it rather than being dodgy and got the reporter to ask multiple questions to get there. But I suspect that the doctor was given a list of "things he can't say" and oxygen on Friday was one of them.

Went from no symptoms to mild to very moderate to severe in about 36 hours. The lying never stops.

My pulmonologist has told me an O2 blood saturation level of 88 is about when they insist on supplemental oxygen. Without the cannula on, my O2 can hover around 93 and I don't notice a thing. Depending on humidity, it will only dip below 90 if I walk more than about 40 yards. And my lung function is one-fifth of what it should be for a normal adult my age.

If Trump got oxygen yesterday, I have to believe it was because his anxiety was escalating.

is it can get really low and people don't notice it unless they develop pneumonia or have lung damage.

In serious cases of COVID-19, patients struggle to breathe with damaged lungs, but early in the disease, low saturation isn’t always coupled with obvious respiratory difficulties. Carbon dioxide levels can be normal and breathing deeply is comfortable—“the lung is inflating so they feel OK,” says Elnara Marcia Negri, a pulmonologist at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo. But oxygen saturation, measured by a device clipped to a finger and in many cases confirmed with blood tests, can be in the 70s, 60s, or 50s. Or even lower. Although mountain climbers can have similar readings, here the slide downward, some doctors believe, is potentially “ominous,” says Nicholas Caputo, an emergency physician at New York City Health + Hospitals/Lincoln.

would normally be evident in discoloration (blue) of the extremities. You would see it in their fingers, at the tips, under the nails.
