He got asked about his position on "defunding the police" by the mom of a cop. She seemed pleased with the response about bringing people from all the groups toether in the White House to determine the best way to accomplish law enforcement with the minimum amount of force, to get more funding where needed, and get mental health workers to ride with cops with dealing with mentally ill individuals.
Then someone asked him about hate groups. He went into his history as a public defender dealing with how race affected his clients and finished his answer with one of my favorite sayings of his. He said hate never dies, it only hides. It comes back when you breathe life back into it and legitimize it, like what is happening now by Trump. He said that is what convinced him that he needed to run. We must make hate unacceptable again.

HEAR Joe's explanation why he left a prestigious law firm and became public defender!
'Can't defeat hate . . . have to equip agencies with tools to bring people together.'
Joe was on a ROLL, and I hope his response is repeated EARLY and OFTEN!

(51,772 posts)Great finish when he answered the question from a grad student asking how Biden could represent "Generation Z" with a 50-year age difference between them. Joe responded by listing the challenges Gen Z faces and his plans to help them. He then explained what he means about being a :transitional president." He said he wants to prepare the country to hand off leadership to Generation Z, pointing to the student, saying "you are the future." He said even though Gen Z is the one most "behind the 8 ball" financially, they are the best educated, most open and least prejudiced generation in American history. "The future is yours and I'm counting on you."
I'm glad to see it's just now gotten to the west coast, so everyone's covered now (except Hawaii and Alaska?) so everyone's able to appreciate him!
