He cancelled his events for some other reason... my money is on the fact that hes positive.
If Pelosi knows this, then the announcement on the Commission makes sense. With both the President and Vice President ill from a deadly disease, we should question their ability to govern.
I dont think Pelosi would have done this otherwise. It would be a distraction from the Biden campaign any other way. It would never pass the senate and there would never be a veto proof majority... unless the Republicans are finally done with Trump. And that may be so.
And I suspect McConnell may have been her lead on Pence being positive. He was throwing the administration under the bus this afternoon on COVID. Hes trying to get any space from Trump he can get now.

(38,958 posts)I don't see Pence going along with the 25th, but it is 2020 and who knows what might happen as goofy as this year has been.

(7,715 posts)Pence and Mother would love to be Acting President and First Lady, respectively if there is the political will in Congress to do it.

(19,264 posts)POTUS is being crazy. The 25th SHOULD be invoked. The GOP won't do it so Pelosi is calling them out. Keep it in the headlines. Keep everyone talking about how dangerous and crazy Dumpy is. Keep everyone talking about how spineless Pence and the GOP are. Ensure the stink of Trump sticks to them.

(52,227 posts)if it helps biden, great. but i don't really want anything to undermine the message that america is rejecting the whole republican party in november.
i don't want republicans or the media to be in a position to suggest he lost in november because he's very ill, or anything about specifically donnie.
it's important that america reject *all* of this crap, not just one man.

(7,715 posts)and, I agree with you: she wouldn't be doing this without some kind of indication to go ahead by the Senate. As I understand it, Trump can override the House Commission by 2/3rds of the House and Senate. I don't think she would undertake something like this if it weren't warranted under all circumstances, including political support.
That being said, this is pure speculation on my part. Who knows with all the lying and gaslighting going on.

(7,715 posts)Speaker Pelosi is going with the latter. Maybe this is just being cautious, but it's a bit risky to go all the way on this without bipartisan support in Congress which, admittedly, would be a first in years.

(35,699 posts)declares Trump unable to perform the duties of the President. Also Trump himself can say he can't do it and then Pence is acting President until Trump says otherwise.
