Unpopular opinion - Talking about the 25th amendment is the dumbest thing will can do RN.

Even if such justified moves are being made behind the scenes.

Trump is gasping for air and needs a narrative with 25 days from an election we are almost certain to win.

This talk plays nicely into his 'coup attempt' claims of the 'establishment' and detracts from the Biden campaign message. It conveys fear, arrogance and an implication that voters cannot do what they're tasked with.

Such talk plays well in Democratic strongholds but not in swing states needed to win.

Trump should never go down as a martyr. Trump and Trumpism must be defeated by the very system that he seeks to discredit - American democracy.

A post election invocation? Yes, let's talk about it.

Flame away.

Has Pence said anything about Speaker Pelosi's announcement on the 25th Amendment commission?

We don't know all the facts.

A debate on a presidential candidate's mental heath based upon his obvious erratic behavior is not likely to help that candidate's chances at the ballot box.

It's not a coup over the will of the people because like impeachment, the person who would take control is not a Democrat. It is the person the people (& the Russians) chose to do such a thing if needed: Mike Pence.

I would agree. There has to be something we don't know pushing Nancy Pelosi to take this extraordinary step which is really unlike her. She's doing this for unknown reasons, Pence is flying back for unknown reasons. Could be to fight her on it, could be coordination. Too many unknowns here.

Look at the reckless behavior on enforcement and adherence to the CDC's guidelines on covid-19 alone.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff are in quarantine after
Coast Guard Adm. Charles Ray tested positive. Adm. Ray and the Joint Chiefs were last at the White House on Sept. 27 for an event honoring Gold Star families.

How many from his campaign and staff and attendees at the Rose Garden have tested positive?

The guy is a menace and a raving lunatic.

This is not a drill.
This is not a game.

We have a dangerously out of control, mentally unstable resident of the White House, in charge of nuclear codes.

Madam Speaker is doing her duty. She can not ignore this, saying “Nah, I’ll take a hard pass because it might have bad optics during the election.” That’s a game only the GOP plays.

This move either. I typically trust Nancy but I do not see the value of this. The House can't invoke the 25th amendment. Pence won't do it. And even if someone did it would take a two thirds majority of the House and Senate to remove him. You couldn't get two thirds of the Senate to vote him out if he was running around the White House in nothing but a shitty diaper and claiming that Melania had run off with Bigfoot.

I also fear something like this could hand him ammo for some of his bullshit claims. I just don't see where this is going that helps our side.

Maybe consider this - It's her obligation as Speaker to help shepherd the nation. To keep us safe. If T is off his rocker because of the effects of the drugs which were and may still continue to be administered, then Congress needs to look at the situation soberly.

This administration is so wacky that the responses to it may feel way out. But they're just doing their job and she's doing that as a member of leadership. This is way more important an issue than her going to a salon during a pandemic. The administration at least needs a warning.

The sober people in leadership are going to do their jobs because this is not a reality show. T has possession of the nuclear codes. I'm comforted by Pelosi's refusal to roll the dice and hope for the best.

Thanks for the opportunity to expand on this issue.

... but I'm certain that Speaker Pelosi has the highest intention to protect our citizens with this move. If this were simply a grandstanding political tactic she could have accomplished it with a press conference or a well-timed tweet.

I think it has reached a point where even White House employees are talking about what they know, and it's scaring the shit out of everyone in Washington.

Pelosi and Rankin are resurrecting a three-year old bill that would establish a commission of doctors who could examine a president and make a determination as to his/her fitness. Under the 25th amendment, if the VP plus this Commission send the required notice, the VP becomes acting president until the president's incapacity ends or, after some additional steps, 2/3 of both houses agree that the president continues to be incapacitated.

I don't think Pelosi actually wants this to become law. Indeed, it would seem quite rushed if it was put to a vote before election day. And if Biden wins, Pelosi isn't going to want to put this weapon (limited as it might be) in the hands of Republicans for possible future use against a Democratic president.

But it does draw attention to the President's irrational behavior, so its not a bad strategy to bring it up for discussion.

have a role in the 25th amendment process. Clearly she's trolling Trump right now, probably seeing if she can get him to send out another day or two of unhinged tweets.

Then again, there's probably some real concern by Trump that his cabinet is thinking about removing him right now. McConnell is throwing shade and most of the cabinet is in isolation and away from him. He's already been sending tweets that might be considered attacks on Barr and Pompeo today.
