IN-05: Indiana's Republican education chief endorses Hale for Congress

Jennifer McCormick, Indiana’s Republican education chief, is throwing her weight behind another Democrat – this time in a race with a national profile.

The 5th Congressional District election to replace retiring Republican Susan Brooks is among the most-watched races in the country and is likely the Democrats' best shot of flipping a congressional seat in Indiana.

Republican Victoria Spartz and Democrat Christina Hale are locked in a tight race to replace Brooks in a district known for its ranks of Republicans. The candidates face Libertarian Ken Tucker.

On Wednesday night, McCormick joined Hale and another prominent Hoosier Republican, former superintendent of public instruction Suellen Reed, for a townhall to talk about education issues. Education has been a major point of contention in the race, with an ad accusing Hale of “failing Indiana’s children.”
