Democrats still outnumber Republicans in Erie County.
But since voters here gave President Donald Trump a narrow victory en route to the White House in 2016, voter registration trends have largely favored the GOP.
Overall, registration increased by 8,044 voters, or 4.2 percent, from 190,222 the day before the 2016 election to 198,266 as of Oct. 1.
That includes a staggering 1,745 new voters in the last month alone 1,181 of them being Republicans.
Since 2016, the GOP has added 4,796 voters in Erie County. Democrats have gained just 170. And the number of independent or third-party voters has risen by 3,078.

(5,557 posts)The state has / had a lot of Blue Dog type Democrats, who aren't comfortable with a more progressive platform.
This is why I keep preaching restraint once we take control in Jan. The Republicans aren't going to fade away, and pushing a controversial agenda could hand partial control right back to them. A decade of healing and incremental progress is better of us and for the country than rapid voter backlash and a repeat of 2010.

Turns out, it matters.
