I haven't voted for a Republican since I was old enough to vote in 1984.
Yet I have never checked the box "straight Democratic ticket"
Why?
Because I want the satisfaction of voting FOR Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
They aren't merely Democrats.
Just check here and anyone with (D )after the name is good enough.
No, I want to affirmatively vote FOR the candidate, not just the party to which they belong.
Am I alone in felling this way?

(7,715 posts)I filled out my CA ballot yesterday, and took extreme pride in filling in the oval for Joe and Kamala!
We're not offered that option here, but I agree with you: our vote is sacred, and I would prefer to cast them one by one. (Plus, there's more of a paper trail!)

(17,863 posts)Vote for each candidate. You never know when some judge will throw out straight ticket voting. In this environment, leave nothing to chance. They are already making rulings that disenfranchise early voters.

(12,470 posts)Because of the same reasons y'all mentioned.
My votes are all Dems regardless.

(45,806 posts)candidate just to be sure I like what they say. If I ever found a candidate I really disliked, I'd leave that office vote blank. I don't ever want to expand the Pub #'s.

(26,109 posts)Where there is no Democrat running, I always fill out the write-in bubble and put a name in of my choice. I don't trust the repubs.

(11,686 posts)I never leave a blank vote. If there are more than one Democrat I study them and vote for who I agree with the most. I have done write ins with Democrats before because after studying them they might as well run republican.

(7,947 posts)But I'm lazy. We have paper ballots to be scanned, and all our state races and referendum votes are on the ballot too. So many little holes to fill in!
But I will gaze happily at the Biden/Harris slot before filling in the "Straight Dem".

(15,942 posts)In Texas when we had the option I never voted straight party ticket. As you stated I liked filling in every square box.
However, the republicons took that option away. I would have voted straight ticket this year just to get in and out of there as fast as possible, since we got this deadly pandemic hanging around everywhere.
But alas, I will fill our every box for EVERY Democratic candidate.

I liked voting for Joe and Kamala.

She didn't have a Democratic opponent this year. Her opponent is a Republican.
I voted for her.
I didn't notice any box that would allow me to vote strictly for one party or another. I guess we don't have that here.

(6,496 posts)I'm glad they don't have that in Maine. People should be taking the time to see who is running and vote for each individual race. It's not like it takes all that long anyhow.
