What I’m learning from the Cal Cunningham saga is that affairs are important to reporters as long as Donald Trump isn’t the one having them.

he is a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve

In October 2020, it was reported that Cunningham had exchanged sexually suggestive messages with a woman who was not his wife. Cunningham confirmed the texts were authentic and apologized for his behavior. Several days after the first text messages were released, more were published. The woman, a married public relations strategist from California, confirmed that she had engaged in a consensual physical relationship with Cunningham in 2020. The Army Reserve subsequently started an investigation into Cunningham. Adultery is prohibited by the military and soldiers can be prosecuted for it. The husband of the woman who confirmed having an affair with Cunningham, himself an Army veteran.

maybe mistress is too strong of a word, how about just a woman on the side?

I’m never voting for another married man in a primary again! God dang it, stop screwing up your chances with affairs they always uncover!!

I donated to Cal’s campaign. I could care less but it’s like John Edwards — don’t disappoint the voters and risk our chances of taking the senate. Grrr!!

(IF you get elected, then Yay Cal! If we lose this seat by a small margin, it will be infuriating.)

On edit: obviously there are some married men like Barack Obama who are self-evidently loyal and mature who would not risk their marriage or their election like this, so I’ll have to have a carve out in my primary plans. But dang, this is frustrating.

there's only one reason she came out, and in the article I read, the quoted texts between her and a friend were offered as proof. Her husband said

He said his wife “made mistakes in the communication frequency and content with Mr. Cunningham and others knowledgeable on the topic.” He said he believes the release of text messages “results from foul play with ulterior motives.”
He said some of the text messages released — between Guzman Todd and a third-party — are “completely fabricated, as I’ve seen the real ones.”

In my day having an affair, required actually having an affair. A life ruined over texts just seems so, what's the word? American?
