Trump personnel office weighs asking appointees to offer their resignations

The White House Presidential Personnel Office is considering asking nearly every political appointee in the Trump administration to write and tender provisional letters of resignation right before the election, according to two senior administration officials.

The personnel office would then decide which ones to accept and which to reject — giving President Donald Trump maximum flexibility in choosing his team in a possible second term.

The potential maneuver has angered some officials as appointees calculate their next career moves — weighing their loyalty to the president and his agenda against the danger that he may lose in November and leave them scrambling for gainful employment.

“It’s a rotten way to treat people who risked their own reputations and career paths to join the administration and have been working tirelessly to get the president over the finish line,” said one of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as to not publicly antagonize the White House.

Not to be too pedantic, but no one, and I mean NO ONE, is going to wipe the ass of this administration after it shits itself completely on election day.

This usually happens only during transitions between presidents, and then typically only in December. Not that I'm expecting that Biden will end up replacing most of those appointees, but it's not atypical to have existing heads stay in to train their replacement.

Because Trump claims that the Obama team abandoned their responsibility to ease through a helpful transition after he was elected. Which is, of course, BS from everything I've read. Trump's people wanted nothing to do with any Obama help, thought they (the Trumpers) knew everything. Trump wants as much chaos as possible.

That being said, Joe Biden is not a novice to the workings of government and will bring along experienced people.

This is just more spite coming out of Trump and a clear show of disloyalty to his own team. I don't blame his people for being pissed by this move. On the other hand, I don't feel sorry for them. They knew who he was and still continued working for him.

Sleep with dogs and all that.

were waiting for Trump people to show up and find out what they needed to know about the agencies, and how to assure a smooth transition. They waited weeks, or in some cases no one from the Trump campaign ever showed up. And those who finally did had essentially no knowledge of the agencies.

Read The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis. It's horrifying. The incompetence and ignorance of the Trump people is breathtaking.

But I've heard Michael Lewis talk about those early days.

Yes, horrifying, breathtaking and every descriptive in the book. Even on the pandemic response plan that the Obama team had meticulously put together. As I recall, the Trump team showed up reluctantly and then barely hid their contempt and absolute indifference. And we all know how that went. We're living it now.

Incredible.

They already know more about running government then their would be predecessors. Plus Biden will really pick the "best" people most of whom will have already been vetted during the Obama administration and some even vetted in a Bush administration.

But veterans of the personnel office say that asking for provisional resignation letters ahead of an election — rather than, say, in January before Inauguration Day — would be highly unusual.

I think they want to have 100% MAGATs in place for the wholesale looting and destruction they're planning for between the election and Inauguration Day. Trump will be burning down everything he can touch.
