Petition for Obama/Romney 10/03/12 debate question on campaign money corrupting our political system

On October 3, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will face off in the first presidential debate of this election season. Concerns that big money is corrupting our political system are shared by conservatives, progressives, and independents alike, yet neither presidential candidate has told voters what policy solutions they would implement if elected president. unPAC and Free Speech For People want Obama and Romney to debate this issue so we know exactly where they stand on the issue of money in politics.

We’re sending Jim Lehrer, the debate’s moderator, several questions specific to this issue. If enough of us take a stand, we have a chance of convincing Mr. Lehrer to ask these two questions during the debate:

Question 1: “If elected, would you call on Congress to study and propose a Constitutional Amendment designed to reduce the influence of money in our political system – yes or no – and, if not, what would you do to address voter concerns that campaign money is corrupting our political system?”

Question 2: “There are several versions of citizen-funded elections in place across the country — including our nation’s largest city, New York. Studies have found that these policies reduce corruption and increase participation in the political process by decreasing reliance on big dollar contributors. Would you support a similar system for federal elections?”

4. I want them to discuss ALEC

Republicans give us this bullshit about "the vision of our forefathers".

Then they allow corporations to write our legislation.

What would the writers of our Constitution think of ALEC? This is the question I would ask.
