Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) seems headed toward a re-election loss after just one term in the U.S. Senate.
The Iowa Republican became a rising star after her nine-point election win in 2014, but Ernst is now trailing Democratic challenger Theresa Greenfield by about five points in recent polls, reported Vox.
"She's had six years, and she's forgotten Iowans," said Greenfield. "She has sold out Iowans for her big corporate donors."
Iowa voters seem to agree, saying that Ernst hasn't done enough for her home state in Congress, and her support for President Donald Trump's agenda has turned off voters in the state's growing suburbs.
"Suburban women have said, 'To hell with this' and voted up and down the ticket for us," said one Democratic strategist. "We've also picked up some men outside of suburbia who wanted to see a federal check on Trump. I think that's part of the trend we're seeing in the Senate race." .............(more)

(12,509 posts)since the policies of her and her president have killed off so many workers at her local meat packing plants, she should easily be able to get a job castrating pigs, just before the xmas holiday rush when New Year's hams are a popular substitute for turkey. Go for it Joanie.

(25,479 posts)As noted, she's basically done nothing for Iowans.
The general impression is that she got elected solely to profit off of it. That doesn't sell well in Iowa.

(40,220 posts)Once she arrived in Washington, it became clear that Ernst possesses a mediocre intellect and was not capable of assuming leadership positions because she does not have the required leadership skills.
Joni Ernst is a follower and a back bencher.
She hitched her caboose to the Trump Train, has been photographed one too many times planting kisses on Trump's cheek, and took direction from Charles Grassley and Mitch McConnell sabotaging any pretense of independence.
Despite her claim of supporting victims of sexual harassment and abuse, she did not even bother to show up and listen at the hearing for Dr. Ford. Her comment to reporters was: "I trust Charles Grassley."
Iowans are sick and tired of this vapid know-nothing. She deserves a 10 point loss.

(20,630 posts)Democratic voters have a shitty track record when it comes to showing up in mid-term years, and the rest was history.
Thanks for recalling that part about completely blowing off the Dr. Ford testimony - she's doing commercials right now where she's practically crying crocodile tears explaining how much she understands sexual harassment and abuse, ONLY after having suffered it herself at the hands of her psycho, RW extremist ex-husband.

(5,502 posts)There are lots of big personalities in the Senate chamber. I think if you aren't a strong leader/person, you get lost. You get caught up in making the other Republican Senators happy. And they are nice to you because of it. And it's easy to forget where you came from.
My guess is that's what happened to Joni. She got caught up in being a good Republican and forgot about being a good Senator.
