(58,785 posts)the lunch crowds first started thinning out in restaurants.
Lunches out are a natch for Florida retirees: friends with all the time in the world are always available to join you, no one has to rush back to work, it's less expensive (often cheaper than home cooking), leftovers can mean no need to cook dinner, and it doesn't require driving home in the dark or staying up past bedtime.
So when restaurants normally busy with older couples and whole tables of chatting golf buddies and septuagenarians laughing about their art class started emptying out, it was very noticeable. In early April, a place we stopped by for pickup had no lunch customers and closed down not long after.
It's not the older generations who are notable for stupidity and depraved indifference to the growing Covid holocaust. For obvious reasons.

(53,410 posts)I tried. I really tried to make them victims of Trump swindling grift, but no more. Sigh. They are what they are. Theyve chosen to cut off their own noses to spite us.

(19,979 posts)about American "success" when this many foolish idiots, no doubt many with underlying health conditions, can afford to live in a place as presumably expensive as The Villages. Perhaps a lot of grifters and heirs like their beloved anti-hero.

(7,510 posts)Earlier this month, an armada of as many as 500 golf carts gathered at the Sea Breeze Recreation Center to caravan to the nearby elections office, so folks could drop off ballots for Biden.
And as Trump rallied his supporters on Friday, Democrats in The Villages were holding counter-events.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo hosted a press conference with seniors in the Villages Friday afternoon, and a golf cart ride was held in show of support for Biden.

Community outbreaks of Covid-19 often emerge after Trumps campaign rallies

Link: https://www.statnews.com/2020/10/16/trump-campaign-rallies-leave-a-trail-of-community-outbreaks/
Excerpt:
The president has repeatedly held these gatherings not only in defiance of public health guidelines, but seemingly to spite them: downplaying the threat of the virus, eschewing basic public health principles such as wearing face coverings and packing his supporters shoulder to shoulder for political optics. Several early campaign events were indoors, such as in Tulsa, where there was a reported surge in cases afterwards. Former presidential candidate Herman Cain, who was co-chair of Black Voices for Trump and who attended the Tulsa rally without wearing a mask, tested positive for Covid-19 two days after the rally and died less than two weeks later.
+++
What we found was sobering yet not surprising. Spikes in Covid-19 cases occurred in seven of the 14 cities and townships where these rallies were held: Tulsa; Phoenix; Old Forge, Penn.; Bemidji, Minn.; Mankato, Minn.; Oshkosh, Wis.; and Weston, Wis.
Studies like this need to be headlined in the MSM news.
Never thought I would live to see a U.S. president have total disregard for his constituent's health and well-being.

(1,997 posts)Decent chance that some won't make it to the polls.
I also hope that all the Dems in the area vote early! They don't want to be stuck in line with anyone at this rally.
