(15,472 posts)I wa born in 1957 and enjoyed the stories of the altruism of the depression and WWII , but since then the heroics of sacrifice are far and few between .I call it " Narcissistic Fibrosis " and it has become a revered disease.

(13,200 posts)It was one of those memes that was used to motivate and inspire millions during WWII to enlist and fight, to go without so the boys could be better armed and feed, to collect scrap, go without gas and tires, and buy war bonds.
And while the average American's chest swelled with pride as they did sacrifice, there were one percenters who lived very well and continued to get rich by producing war materiel.

(8,244 posts)Sorry if that's jumping to conclusions. It's just that whenever I see politicians on TV talking about "shared sacrifice" it usually means they are trying to cut a program that people depend on. That's kind of how I was reading your question.
If not that, what sacrifice are you describing ?
