Is sacrifice still an American value?

Or something to read about in history books?

I wa born in 1957 and enjoyed the stories of the altruism of the depression and WWII , but since then the heroics of sacrifice are far and few between .I call it " Narcissistic Fibrosis " and it has become a revered disease.

When one side stops compromising, democracy fails.

6. I think that is questionable as an American "value"

It was one of those memes that was used to motivate and inspire millions during WWII to enlist and fight, to go without so the boys could be better armed and feed, to collect scrap, go without gas and tires, and buy war bonds.

And while the average American's chest swelled with pride as they did sacrifice, there were one percenters who lived very well and continued to get rich by producing war materiel.

12. Are you talking about cutting Social Security or Medicare benefits, or some other programs?

Sorry if that's jumping to conclusions. It's just that whenever I see politicians on TV talking about "shared sacrifice" it usually means they are trying to cut a program that people depend on. That's kind of how I was reading your question.

If not that, what sacrifice are you describing ?

11. It has never been an American value for the 1%ers. Sacrifice is something others do for them.

So, the draw is that they are un-American. So yes it is an American value exclusive of the 1%.
