they look happy, he looks comfortable.

And with all due respect to the male gender, not a lot of guys are totally comfortable around kids, especially little kids. I don't ever recall pictures of any president with children, be they his own or other people's kids, that looked as good, as happy, as comfortable with them as does this President.

in the Oval Office. And that picture you're referring to, while rather sweet, does not have father and son actually interacting.

There is simply something very different about how Obama connects with kids, and how kids connect with him, that I've never seen before in a public figure.

Pretty much all politicians do the "hold a baby" thing, and many of them do it pretty well. Heck, I was once at an airport to meet Kerry right after he'd sewn up the nomination in 2004, and had the good luck to stand right next to a couple with a child maybe nine months old. Kid took right to Kerry, and he held her quite comfortably and for several minutes.

But there's something in the way kids just glow when they're looking at Obama that I marvel at.
