The Conservative movement on both sides of the pond have a demographic make up that looks like something from the 1950’s. Republican leaders (as in Congress, Senate Governors) are 87% white men. Trumps Cabinet is as equally lacking in diversity with 87% male of which 80% are white, with women making up a whopping 13% of those around the top table. Here in the UK, in BoJo’s cabinet we have a similar but slightly better picture, with 71% of the cabinet being male, and 86% white (but with no black people), while the overall parliamentary party is very definitely reflective of the last century. There are 30 less female Conservative MPs in comparison to the Labour Party, even though the Tories have an 80-seat majority, making up just 19% of the parliamentary party. On top of this only 6% of MPs are from an ethnic minority.
No wonder they so shit at running anything, never mind in a time of pandemic. Right wing white men think they know it all. They have been told all their lives how special they, how they are the cleverest, the strongest, but in reality, because of their inevitable privilege they know next to nothing about anything. They have actively chosen to not surround themselves with a diversity of opinion and life experience outside their privileged bubble of elites that think and look exactly like them. Children are going hungry, people are losing their homes, horrifying numbers are falling ill and dying, because they choose to have policies based on what their privilege looks like, rather than on what the people need.
Couple this with the fact that they are heartless by design, and is it any wonder they are so demonstrably relentlessly shit. At least you get to get rid of yours next week. We are stuck with ours for another 4 long years.
