Who is the worst president during your lifetime?

Don’t let accomplishments before or after they were president influence your choice. Just their time as president.

Trump is by far the worst. The rest are like 2A to 2C. What is amazing is that those 3 served 2 terms - how could we re-elct (or re-select) such fucking idiots.

He did end the war but he also did some other worthwhile things like forming the EPA; signing the ESA into law as well as Clean Air Act; OSHA; NEPA; Supported the ERA (Congress failed to ratify); and 17 policies that were helpful to Native Americans like the Self Determination Act among other important issues addressed.

But I can't celebrate what he did to the nation being one of those who edged us toward the slippery slope we are trying to avoid sliding down currently.

Bush Jr was flawed, made bad decisions, was lazy early on, started an unnecessary war which is really bad, enabled racists, and tanked the economy. But he was more of a standard issue Republican following the plan. His political faults are mostly attributable to failed ideology and the toxic influence of Cheney, which he eventually realized.

Trump is openly racist, regurgitates conspiracies, is blatantly corrupt, openly cynical and paranoid, and has led to far more American deaths than Bush. There are arguments to be made for Nixon and Reagan, but nothing like this. There are arguments to be made about Hoover but few to make the argument.

De-regulation, trickle-down economics, defunding mental health initiatives (which spiked our homeless rates), war on drugs, hard core prison sentences vs rehabilitation, double down on oil, Iran contra....I could go on.

W would be second. 911 happened on his watch as did two wars based on lies. His economic policies led to 2008 economy collapse.

Trump is an overt racist and xenophobic who played directly to people's biases. He blatantly broke laws that Reagan and W insulated themselves against.

Ford is next (although I almost put him third) for pardoning Nixon and setting a precedent where former presidents are not held accountable.

Nixon was actually liberal compared to today's standards. And he may have prevented a segregationist from becoming president in 1968. Nixon had very bad judgement caused by extreme paranoia.

Carter had great ideas but wasn't the greatest at communicating an inspirational vision of how the country and people would benefit. I wish he had been more aggressive with Iran during the hostage crisis.

Obama helped bring the country back from the 2008 financial crisis. He used a lot of creative solutions. I think ACA could have been better designed--but ACA is awesome considering how innovative it was. I wish Obama had talked about racial injustice more than he did. And I think he could have played a better political game with congress.

Clinton oversaw the best stretch of prosperity since right after WWII. There are people today living on retirement accounts built under Clinton. Yes, the crime bill ended up having unintended consequences. However, Democrats had been labeled as weak on crime, which was a real liability. And while the defense of marriage act was shitty, I do believe that it prevented a constitutional amendment defining marriage from being passed (at that point it very well could have passed). And let's not forget that Clinton gave us RBG.

I was not alive during Nixon, Ford, and was about 7 when Reagan was elected. I do remember being scared to death about the possibility of nuclear war. We still had drills for "The Bomb" in grade school and the air raid sirens would go off every once in a while in the city where I grew up.

At this point however, it is Trump hands down. Had COVID-19 not come into play, you could still argue for W Bush, but Trump has caused the deaths of over a QUARTER MILLION Americans by his malicious incompetence.

He expanded mass surveillance, there is the Iraq war, and Afghanistan which we are still there. Torture is another thing that happened. I blame Bush for Trump. Republicans eventually realized Bush was a bad President and became disillusioned with the neocon ideology. Trump successfully ran against Bush's record in the 2016 primaries.

Also Bush was awful on climate change.
