He's already voted. As they are showing images on tv of businesses boarding up bracing for violence, he said he was expecting trump to lose and he expects violence from trumpers when he loses. Therefore, he has no intention of leaving home on Tuesday or the rest of this week in case there is violence .
One of the reasons, my family migrated to the USA in the 1980's, was to escape violent elections. I was a little girl then, but I remember the terror people would feel when it was time for election.
Here we are in America, thinking about the same possibilities. It's surreal. I doubt it will get to that level of election violence of the 70's and 80's in Jamaica.
However
I hope enough Americans understand what is truly at stake. You see this in other places, not America. This is not normal. One of many things that trump has broken.

However, I don't expect Trump to win. Not legitimately, anyway.

just to throw enough of a question that Biden's win will have little legitimacy.
On January 20, 2021, there will be 2 inaugurations.
Which one will Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts attend?

(13,920 posts)If he thinks he can keep trump and retain respectability, he will do it.
It he doesnt, he wont.
Based on that... the question is.. is there a swing state with a fight, or does trump lose narrowly in all the swing states? Roberts might try and throw his thumb on the scales of the first scenario, but in the second, i doubt he does.

that is another reason why fox is not the problem - the fox blowhards might hint but they're not going to go nuts and risk losing their high paid jobs. the radio blowhards get to hide behind microphones and take calls from puffed up cowardly idiots who have been hearing democratic voter fraud lies and BLM communist terrorist bullshit for years. and some of those callers we know are paid and some might be calling from the kremlin. the big national blowhards will leave it at "democrats stole the election", "there were boxes of ballots dumped in rivers" etc and obstruct biden harris for 4 years (without a peep of challenge from democrats) and leave the rest to the shit fer brains dittoheads to fiil in the blanks.

if carville had said "it's the radio stupid" 2 years before losing the congress for the first time in decades we' be in a totally different place
there has been no organized response to republicans' only unique advantage. it is that messaging dominance that is often misdiagnosed as 'public opinion' and 'what the people want' - just because its loud, and because it is unchallenged, misdiagnosed and often misused by democratic politicians, even mistakenly, to intimidate and enable compromises -often called blue dog and conservadem bullshit

If it's bad and happens early in the day, and is all over the news all day? It provides Mango Mussolini with exactly the sort of excuse he's looking for ... we have to have a do-over because people were too frightened to go to the polls!!1!

(21,742 posts)Remember 2016 when his goons went on Nazi rampages when he won? There was a huge increase in hate crimes those following two weeks. It was a if they had gotten the green light by Trump winning. I fear more of the same if it happens again. As if people approve of the hatefulness.

(1,568 posts)...brought home my moms little handgun. I grew up in a hunting family and our Oklahoma lake house has been known to have copperheads and water moccasins - so we have guns for both. My hubs horrible dad once played Russian roulette with his kids to torture their mom (long, terrible story) so hes not a gun person and weve never brought one home. Always figured wed bring home the historic/war guns minus ammo after my dad passes...
Anyway, we decided to bring home my moms single action .22 and a few bullets today. I just dont trust Trump and the cult like furor of his followers. I think if he told them to hit the streets across the country, they would.
I doubt it will leave the cabinet where I stashed it, but it does make me feel better. Never thought wed think that or say it.
But it goes back after things are settled.

(21,445 posts)Then I plan to stay inside and monitor events once the polls close. I don't see how we can avoid violence now, regardless of who wins. I hope we can get through this peacefully, or that any violence is brief and isolated, without serious harm.
But with truck caravans already on the road and threatening the Biden campaign, it does not look good.

(508 posts)But he should not be scared. Thats what the right wingers want. And if fear wins out, the bad guys win.
I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and afterwards I may pick up my lovely (immigrant) wife at her job and take her out to lunch. If any trumpers try to stand in our way, we'll she is well versed in self defense. And I've already voted. Please give your dad a big hug from a big guy in Iowa and both of you stay safe and healthy.
