Christie Steps All Over Ryan

Paul Ryan breaks Christie's 'no whining rule'

On Wednesday, Mitt Romney told CBS News that he doesn't worry about media bias, signalling that the campaign was abandoning a blame-the-media strategy it had courted a week earlier. The very same day, senior Romney campaign adviser Ed Gillespie told Fox & Friends that the campaign had a "no whining rule" about media coverage.

But Romney's running mate Rep. Paul Ryan upended all that in an interview this morning with Fox News Sunday.

"It goes without saying that there is definitely media bias," Ryan said. "I think most people in the mainstream media are left of center and, therefore, they want a very left-of-center president versus a conservative president like Mitt Romney."

Ryan was likely unaware that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Romney campaign surrogate, would be on ABC's "This Week" the same morning arguing that such complaining was the surefire sign of a struggling campaign.

“I’m not going to sit here and complain about coverage of the campaign,” Christie said. “As a candidate, if you do that, you’re losing.”

Chris Christie ramps up expectations for Mitt Romney ahead of first debate

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) raised expectations Sunday ahead of Mitt Romney’s first debate with President Obama, saying that come Thursday morning, observers will look at the race as an entirely new contest.

“I have absolute confidence that when we get to Thursday morning, George, all of you are going to be shaking your head saying it’s a brand-new race with 33 days to go,” Christie said on ABC’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”

Romney and Obama will debate for the first time Wednesday night in Denver. On Sunday, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said he didn’t believe any one event could dramatically alter the course of the campaign (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/09/30/paul-ryan-on-debates-i-dont-think-one-event-is-going-to-make-or-break-this-campaign/).
Christie appeared to do the opposite . . .

“Wednesday night’s the restart of this campaign,” Christie said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”
