Funny how those who spend their lives open and curious about the world, those who actually spend time observing the world around them in order to get source material to use in their professions,...most always end up liberal minded.

For 12 of those years it was set at 2:30am for up and out for a commute. He still managed to
coach the young one's sports and build projects around our home.

No one who knows him ever asks why he retired at age 55.

and for 18 of those years he only had to drive 8 miles or so.

Retirement sure has been nice for us...I will fight to keep
the repugs from taking all he worked for away.

They risk only being able to afford one.

For those less well-off:

"Do I vacation in Europe or China this year or Europe AND China this year?"

They risk only being able to afford one vacation spot.

I usually don't get into this comparison-of-misery game but the OP reminded me of what life was like when I was a wage slave. I miss it.

It's amazing how much a few days in the hospital costs, especially when they keep throwing me into CT and MRI tubes.

If you take a Capital Gains loss, you can write it off on your taxes ($3,000 a year cap).

You cannot write off lost wages on your taxes.
