The Electoral College Makes White People's Votes Count More

Wyoming is 92% white.

California is 37% white.

A Wyoming voter has nearly 4x more influence than a California voter.

The Electoral College is racist. It must be abolished.

already a majority minority state with whites being only
37% percent of the population.

And as the old saying goes, California sets the trend of what happens next in the rest of the nation.

...affirmative action for rural States. And the irony is, the people in those states will go bat-shit crazy when you mention 'affirmative action' for different races; but LOVE the fact that the Electoral College is AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FOR THEIR STATE.

There are two reasons I want to abolish the electoral college:

1. It's anti-democratic. Yes, it's possible to have too much DIRECT democracy. For example, the Continental Army started out by ELECTING their officers. Each Company would elect their own Captain, which is a big mistake. And I still think it's a mistake for counties to ELECT their own Sheriff and/or their own JUDGES in certain States. That's a huge conflict of interest, and a danger to justice. But when we're talking about something that facilitates MINORITY RULE of a country, that's different. A tiny handful of bozos in a 'swing state' shouldn't be able to decide the fate of 330 million people. Three and a half million more people voted for Clinton than for Trump, but they were over-ruled by about 70,000 people in three 'swing states.' That's not a constitutional republic, that's an oligarchy.

and, more importantly,

2. It will put an end to this irritating spectacle of every network having their favorite numbers geek jumping up and down in front of an interactive electoral college map, like an inflatable tube man at a used car lot, for six months before every election. Screw that! Just tell me who's winning, overall.

isn't with tiny states.

The problem is when the "swing states" alter the vote. CA will probably remain D unless Jesus himself runs. Same with NY. But PA and a few others could swing a block of 20-30 votes with only 51% of the votes. We saw this last time, when AZ, PA, WI, MI, NC and FL went to Trump by not that much. There's 101 EC votes that Trump got as much as by chance. Hillary only needed 53 of them, and you can't get that from Iowa or ND. You can get that from FL, PA, and AZ. With fairly few votes.

Instant runoff voting sounds interesting, but there will be tons of lawsuits and it still isn't proven if it will reduce the Nader/Stein/Perot problem.

... their COMBINED population is LESS than California and their 2 Democratic Senators.

That's ridiculous! It's amazing that the GOP can ever lose control of the Senate with that kind of advantage.

And those same 15 states also get more combined electoral votes than California too.

always hanging out with the people. My two NY Senators may get down this way every 3 or 4 years. The senatorial imbalance is not made up by the House.

Then I start asking if I really want a half dozen Texas senators...

The problem with the Electoral College is the winner take all approach, whether if you win a state by 25 points or by 1 percent. If we had to have the Electoral College, I'd like to see them do it like Nebraska and Maine do it. You get an Electoral Vote for each congressional district you win and if you win the state, then you get the 2 remaining electoral votes for that particular state. That would be much more representative for how that state voted.

once the Democratic party is all but guaranteed of controlling enough EC votes to secure the Presidency. If the Democratic party can deliver CA, NY, TX or FL reliably, the Republicans will howl for its removal. I'm fine with getting rid of it if ALL citizen votes are counted equally.
