Glorious Election Day in Illinois with Governor Pritzker declaring November 3rd a State Holiday

Months ago, Gov. JB Pritzker declared that today would be a State Holiday. Voting is so easy and relaxed although many of us voted early anyway. It's like a party to celebrate democracy across the entire state. If you need an example of the opposite of voter suppression, Illinois is your best bet. Thank you Governor Pritzker! This could be the beginning of a tradition in Illinois. We already have our bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge.

and then, not all (e.g., election officials, obviously!). But it doesn't mean that workplaces and businesses will be closed (though some may) or that mail won't be delivered. It's a good start, though! The law does provide for all employers to give workers 2 hours off to vote.

Among the most notable effects of the bills is the designation of November 3 as a state holiday in Illinois, meaning that all government offices (except election officials, K-12 schools and some post-secondary schools) will get the day off. It's possible that some businesses throughout the state will follow suit, but anyone who has worked on Casimir Pulaski Day or Lincoln's birthday knows that state holidays don't always translate to time off.
