PHILADELPHIA Pennsylvania has received more than 2.5 million mail-in and absentee ballots so far, according to new data from election officials here.
That means that 81 percent of state voters who were sent those ballots have returned them. To break it down, more than 1.6 million of those ballots were from registered Democrats, 586,000 were from Republicans, and 278,000 were from independents or third-party voters.
This isnt surprising or necessarily revealing: Political insiders have expected for months that Democrats would vote disproportionately by mail, while Republicans would vote disproportionately in person.
One stat that is interesting, though, is that 84 percent of registered Democrats who have been sent mail-in or absentee ballots have returned them, compared with 74 percent of Republicans.

(16,926 posts)I opted NOT to do "by mail" voting. I was willing to stand in line in a VERY RED county and make my mark.
There was a line, great "social distancing" and most with masks. The entire process took 26 minutes and I was out.
I WAS influenced by the concern of "voting by mail" - didn't want to take the chance since my county does not have a return box available and I was not willing to trust what BunkerBoy was doing to the postal system (there ARE delays in my area - I made a good choice!).
So, for me: I voted - no problems - 1/2 hour - most with masks - GO JOE!!!!!
Nay
(12,051 posts)but because messing with the post office could conceivably mess with a mail-in vote. Our county already had absentee voting where, in normal years, you'd need a reason to vote early, but this year it was opened to everyone cuz COVID. Normally we could only vote at the County Gov. Complex, but they opened 4 libraries as extra polling places for early voting. We were in and out at our library in 10 minutes.

(1,442 posts)and our normal mail delivery has been so erratic, that my wife and I decided to vote in person. To do so in PA, one has to simply return the unused mail-in ballot, sign off on the returned document, and have the signature witnessed at the polls.
Normally, there are no more than two other people in front of us waiting to vote at our polling location. Today, there were more than twenty, and the guy handling the returned mail-in ballots couldn't keep up!
Even better, many in line were young people, a demographic we've rarely seen at the polls in our sleepy little bedroom comminity.
