They don't want to govern when they are in power, and when we are they block everything. Personally, I think it will be even worse this time around than it was with Obama.
Executive orders can only go so far.

(17,023 posts)Joe saw what happened when Obama tried to play nice. We are in the middle of a pandemic and it shouldnt be difficult to squeeze the turtle and make it all his fault when legislation to help the country does on the turtles desk.

(1,580 posts)We need to mobilize in Georgia for those senate seats. My sister has not given up hope for Cunningham in NC.

I disagree about it being harder. Biden has longstanding relationships in Congress he can call upon. I imagine some of them want to break the fever too! Will obstruction be their only legacy?
I think there was a sense with Obama that he cut the line. We were ready for him - but the old white male establishment that is the Senate was not, had no vision, thus would not work with him.

(1,836 posts)Joe has a lot of very long relationships on the red side of the aisle, and many of those relationships are positive in nature.
Democrats wont get free reign, but I do think he will have less resistance than Obama.

(68,768 posts)so we could still get the Senate...but the Senate map for 2022 is dismal for the GOP. Richard Burr, Ron Johnson and Pat Toomey are retiring. Thus, McConnell will not have such an easy time enforcing complete gridlock.

(10,040 posts)by the republicans over the last four years. That means copious use of Executive orders. That means direct control of the Attorney General and DOJ. That means not showing up to Senate sideshow "hearings". To not do so would be to unilaterally disarm.

(54,770 posts)As an example of what can happen:
If the Supreme Court sinks ACA -- and I'm not convinced they will -- the House and President can present a health care plan to the Senate. It will likely take some compromise on our part, but something will get enacted. There will be a couple of GOPer Senators who -- like McCain -- knows it's the right thing to do and understand the consequences in 2022.
Plus, there's a better chance we'll all be alive in 2022 with Biden Admin managing CV19 response.
