People are super confused about the takeaway from this election. Trump got the highest turnout any Republican president will ever get. He was a huge driver to get people that dont usually vote to the polls. It wasnt about policy. It was about making losers feel like winners. There is no republican that will do the same. This was as good as it will ever be for the red team but theyve convinced themselves they now own the white trash vote.
News flash- they will go back to sitting at home watching duck dynasty and not voting now.
I don't like the language but he nailed it. There is no R who could have done what Trump did. He weaponized grievance into nuclear weapons- grade material.

I sincerely hope if a charismatic autocrat wannabe comes along, they will pay him no mind.

(13,929 posts)We started down this path with Reagan. The extremist right had been contained somewhat by the GOP establishment.
Trump blew that all to hell.
Right wing domestic terrorism has been a constant if occasional thing in this country.
I don't think they have given up, I don't think the RWNJ terrorism will lessen. I fear it will get worse.
I don't think the right can put their extremist/fundamentalist nuts back in the jar.

We as a nation and in the audience, the world has seen us on the brink. In less than 60 days, begins this country again.
The duck people will remain just that, and they are a dying sector of the population. There's also thrown in there a miss-match of other conservative views, single-issue voters, which again, will not fit in with the forward propelling motion of the momentum.

(2,113 posts)I have two older brothers who are total MAGA cult members. One is 58 and one is 60. They have never, ever voted before in any election, local or otherwise. This year, they both voted for the first time in their lives - for Trump. No doubt in my mind they will never bother themselves again to put forth the "effort" to vote. This was a one-time shot. I'm 100% positive of it.
