and then he went on to talk about the work ahead and the need for unity.
Brilliant!

He made it clear those states haven't been called yet by the media, but in effect he called them.

(19,264 posts)Said they are solidly ahead and they are confident they win those states just give the process time to count all the votes.
Pretty clearly implied without directly claiming to have already won.

Plus I think it had even more impact that, though he didn't declare himself the winner (yet), he went on to say they have begun working on plans for COVID, the economy, and some of the other issues facing our country. He's going to hit the ground running, which is exactly what this country needs.
His tone was also calming and reassuring. I can't wait for him to take office so we can have a real President leading this country again.

(2,626 posts)He said we're going to win but didn't declare himself the winner. He moved effortlessly from there into talk of unity.
I thought Kamala was slated to speak but she didn't although she stood just off to the side of him as he spoke.

(131 posts)I know the place was swarming with secret service but all this violence Trump and his allies have incited has gotten me on edge. I pray Joe and Kamala are protected and that regular Americans are on high alert as surely there will be violence in the coming days after Joe is named president-elect. Be safe everybody!

(470 posts)and in spite of the emotional arguments for calling the race now, and the logical arguments against calling the race now due to the structural defects of our system (see electoral-vote.com), i can't help but believe that there is a strategy being executed by the Biden campaign.
i think this could be considered the first test of a Biden administration. how to handle stripping the psychopath of power.

There is definitely a feeling of history and significance watching this.
And, I agree- I was a bit surprised when he didn't turn it over to Kamala, but then I knew it amplified the significance of his statement as they walked off the stage together. There's something about the way Kamala moves with strength, confidence, and determination when she walks. Poetry in motion.
To paraphrase Jimi: "And she really didn't need to talk- she just kept on moving."

(17,990 posts)to hear from a real president after 4 years of total insanity. But we ain't done. We've got 2 senate runoffs in GA. My hope is, with dear leader off the ballot, disheartened trumpers will stay home. Take the Senate. Then the real party starts.

They're correct in their summation that the 'costal elites' they hate so much ARE socially liberal...BECAUSE ITS GOOD FOR FUCKING BUSINESS. they're ALSO correct that
their 'conservative ' voices are being shut down on social media...
BECAUSE HATE SPEECH IS BAD FOR BUSINESS.
Nobody took Lincoln Project stuff off youtube, because theres a difference between conservativism and NAZI HATE SPEECH.

We need one source to declare Biden the winner, then the others will have no choice but to follow.
Do you think the GOP would have waited (if the opposite were true)? Nope. They would have declared victory on Wednesday.
