...and no, I'm not providing examples. You know who they are.
Trump trashed their house and they've come stay with us until he leaves. But that doesn't make them family. If they want to join us as Democrats, fine, but if they don't their first task is confronting McConnell and McCarthy, not opening up on Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, or even rank-and-file members like AOC, or any other of our party's progressive members.
That's not their place, and they need to come correct if they want anyone to align with them.

(2,475 posts)You're right, we DO know who they are and sadly if you do provide examples there is always someone or more likely a small vocal group of folks who are going to defend your example.
Debate is great and all but R's are R's, always and forever. ALL of them.

(7,365 posts)We are great friends with another couple. I always thought the women to be more Liberal than the husband. Not long ago she told me that she was a 'card carrying' Republican to this day. Her views simply are way too left to be Republican and I asked, "but your views don't sound anything like Republican to me".
Her response was that she would continue to vote Democratic but hope the Republican Party returns to "sanity". THE ONLY thing I can think of that would lead her to remain Republican is the fact they are well off (I could even say wealthy) and maybe she is more economically Conservative. Turns out her husband is more the lefty that she is, he has always been a Dem.
The point is she is waging her war "inside" the Republican Party while advancing principles that are right at home in the Democratic Party. If her, OR these people the OP references, dream is to move the Republican Party off the fringes of the far-right, then I wish them all the luck, though I doubt it will ever happen.
And if any of these people advance at least some Democratic principles then I will welcome them (as my friend). But if they are just trying to be a "more sane version of a Republican" and then try to make inroads into the Democratic Party then I say fuck them. There are some very basic principles that ALL Democrats should adhere to. Yes, we have a big tent, there are certainly room for differences which I support, but we are NOT Republicans for a reason.
