And I wonder when he will start claiming that Pfizer cost him votes by deliberately holding off on their vaccine announcement until after the election?

Or is it just a coincidence?

(92,190 posts)but to your point, it really serves him right.
He took credit for President Obama's economy when he took office, and again the Democrats are going to have to clean up after the mess the republicans have left us

(8,168 posts)It would have been highly inappropriate for them to announce before the election.
Oh, and I don't give two chits about his feelings.

(21,716 posts)I have already seen people complaining about the timing of the announcement. I question about how they can claim it is 90% effective, seems like it would take a lot more testing over a long period.

(4,554 posts)of those phase 3 trial participants (those who got the vaccine plus those who got the placebo), 90% of those who happened to contract the virus afterwards were in the placebo group.
IIRC there were some 14K participants from a variety or racial backgrounds and countries so the results, if accurately stated, are statistically very important. It's only prelim results however and not peer reviewed so the final results may vary somewhat.
And, I don't believe there is any especially good idea at this point of how long the immunity will last (routine shots may be required).
Bad Thoughts
(2,524 posts)A promise of a vaccine is not a policy. Moreover, we are still a long way from everyone being fully innoculated.
Trump needed to focus the population on measures that would keep people alive now. He didn't
He failed to lead.

Wouldnt have changed fact he mismanaged the pandemic, cost lives, and was otherwise a cruddy President. I doubt that Pfizer deliberately delayed the announcement, though.

He's also paranoid. In his "mind" everything is a plot to make him look bad.
Of course, as they say, "Even paranoids have enemies."

(10,749 posts)But I just read this morning that Pfizer is not part of the government operation warp speed.
And since they're partnering with a European firm, I think I'd be inclined to take this vaccine, provided the continuing tests and trials demonstrate its efficacy.
I never use the word efficacy in speaking to people, but in writing? I love using that word.
