(7,413 posts)Does this poor guy really have to fall on his sword because it inadvertently caught a glimpse of his innocent private life?
This was funny the first day maybe.

(51,308 posts)He was AT WORK. He deserved to be fired.
But major props for the phrase fall on his sword!

(7,413 posts)Link to the contrary?
Also that pun doesn't really work.

(51,308 posts)If you think theres anything ok about this, that tells me two things - 1) youre a male, and 2) you need to learn a bit more about sexual harassment.
How difficult is it to keep it in your pants until the work call is over?
Good for the New Yorker. I hope CNN follows suit.
If this was Tucker Carlson, those defending him here would be turning cartwheels calling for termination. I despise hypocrisy.
Shermann
(7,413 posts)I was pondering the definition of harassment, which is "aggressive pressure or intimidation". Is that the very best characterization here? Is that what he was going for?
Eh, I don't know, too much like work. Cancel him!

(51,308 posts)Id bet just about every woman on DU has experienced this. Every woman I know has. Its sickening, disgusting, gross, and perverted as hell.
The first time it happened to me, I was with 3 other female playmates in a park near our house. We were all about 8 to 10 years of age.
Then it happened while I was running on a trail at 15.
Once I saw a guy do it in a freaking grocery store parking lot as I was walking to my car. Broad daylight.
But I gotta say, NEVER at work.
You simply have no clue. Buh bye.

(30,540 posts)I had it happen to when I was in a parking lot, guy came up tapped on the window then waved it in front of me! I managed to stay calm and turned the other way then got out of the area as fast as I could.

(5,801 posts)He was wanking while connected to a work call.
No feeling sorry for him at all. If I'm on that call, I'm suing him for sexual harassment.

(7,413 posts)....with his PANTS DOWN at the time. That's a totally greasy thing to do. F'n bullshit.
OR it may have been one of those two-hour conference calls with fifty people where you are muted the whole time. On those, you are basically a ghost and it's like listening to the radio. Some days you might have a couple of those to sit through. You could even...*gasp*...momentarily forget you are on one when WORKING FROM HOME.
BUT it could have been the first situation. Yeah, it was probably the first. Cancel him!

(42,309 posts)I always liked Toobin on CNN - he was knowledgeable and funny.
But, he royally fcked up - on camera. It makes no difference if it was a short Zoom or a long Zoom meeting. None whatsoever.
Are you really suggesting that men are such slaves to their dicks that he just had to whip it out during a 2 hour meeting? Really?
That's pretty insulting to the males of the species.
Shermann
(7,413 posts)The only point I'd offer is there seems to be a wide range of possibilities here, from pretty bad to pretty tame. DU doesn't know jack shit about it, and appear to suffer from a failure of imagination here (other than the imaginative plays on words).
mcar

(62,270 posts)...aren't for sexist crap, at least ideologically (like they'd argue for equal pay, pro-choice, stuff like that). But somehow they turn out to be huge pervs.
I mean, really, what kind of perv could you be to whip it out in the middle of a zoom call. I mean I can say I am on the higher end of libido but that is crazy to me. Incomprehensible.

(17,862 posts)Let's say he was on the toilet during the call. Is that fireable as well (assume either the bathroom toilet can be seen from the webcam or he is using a tablet)?
Could he keep his job if he thought the call was over, and he didn't realize the camera was still on?
How about if was in a stall at work masturbating and the stall door came open so a coworker could see him (say its a unisex bathroom for example)?
I actually exercise during some of my business meetings. I am on the clock, but not doing multitasking with something that isn't work.
My wife walked into my home office in underwear. The camera was not on, but I sent her out of the office pretty quickly.
My daughter actually walked in on a doctor doing this in one of the empty patient rooms. She would have just left and not reported it. Unfortunately for the doctor she had a patient with her. Amazingly he kept his job.
I got to say the intent to do this in front of someone has to enter into any discussion of dismissal.
