Forgive me if I dont jump to embrace the people who wanted to make liberals cry again and ended up disappointed
I was taught not to be a sore winner, but this election feels like an exception.
As I drive past what remains of the Trump front yard shrines throughout my southeastern Wisconsin community, I feel no compassion for my neighbors. They use political ideology and religion as an excuse to express unwavering support for a man who has unequivocally done more harm than good during the past four years. They voted for him despite whatever moral objections they may have had regarding his egregious behavior because conservative power and control are more important to them than American lives.
If this isnt true, why else would they support someone who routinely demeans, degrades, and dehumanizes the most marginalized among us, discounting the lives of people of color, mocking people with disabilities, and bragging about sexual assault? Why else would they attempt to re-elect a president with no regard for the rule of law, the brave service and sacrifice of our most beloved military veterans, and the critical importance of a peaceful and cooperative transfer of democratic power?
Since Biden won the election, there have been repeated calls for compassion toward downcast Trump voters. Democrats should hold off from boasting, they say, and instead extend a hand of friendship to the people who laughed and cheered as Donald Trump Jr told them on a rally stage to make liberals cry again. But there have been psychological studies on what motivated people to vote for Trump, and they are well worth reading.

(82,849 posts)It would be against Jesus and the Bible to show mercy to Trump supporters, for they showed none when Fortune's Wheel had them on top.

(5,125 posts)IF you decide who deserves mercy and who does not, THEN you are in violation of "Judge NOT lest ye be judged." "Judgement is MINE saith the Lord."
It is NEVER against Jesus to show mercy.
Jesus DID throw the Money Changers out of the Temple and he DID give the Pharisees a lot of direct talk about their hypocrisy.
HOWEVER, he gave forgiveness to the thief hanging on the cross next to him.
He told everyone he met to turn from their evil ways and follow him.
IF someone is willing to see the truth, forgiveness is available. Facing the truth as a Christian really DOES suck though and it won't be easy for them. So being merciful isn't actually letting them off the hook. When a Christian actually SEES how much their sinfulness has hurt others it is emotionally soul wrenching.
NOW when these RICH IDIOTS arrive in Hell surprised as all get out... they will face Luke 16:20
Still expecting that those lowly people are their lessors, they will get a shock when the least are finally given their due and those who lorded themselves over others in life get what they deserve.

(5,125 posts)Yes, they are stupid/paranoid to believe that. But with the way social media works and ads/media skew to what you "want to hear" they are stuck in a cycle of propaganda.
Yes their motivation is skewed. On purpose against them externally, magnifying what is already within.
However, in the final analysis they are still Americans who live in the country with US.
IF there is anyway to pull the blinders off and get them to see the truth, that would be good. Some may respond to compassion, some may need to see the light of day and burn up like vampires under the fullness of truth.
US being compassionate isn't really about THEM, it's about being the kind of people WORTHY of putting the country back together.
They can pull their heads out of their asses or not, but WE have work to do. Start polite, stay firm and kick ass when you have to, but no reason NOT to start polite if that works.

Like ripples in the water, it may not seem like much and I guess I am not above CARROT AND STICK.
So what the rest are saying, I get. I just think you give them a chance to pick Carrot or Stick. So be it.

Its one thing to be a gracious winner,
but sore losers dont allow for much grace.
My Republicans congratulated us and are comforted by their success on the down ballots.
One is pretty irate. I told him that people hate trump. Even many Republicans.
But he still congratulated us. Hes my favorite living Republican. Weird

(11,421 posts)We walked on egg shells for fear of upsetting them. We reached across the isle over and over and over only to get bit. Time and time again we bent in the wind for those assholes. They are not our friends, they're not our esteemed colleagues. They hate us. It's time to turn their own playbook on them. Treat them the same way they treated us. If they don't like it they can go pound sand. There is nothing wrong with standing up to bullies.
