A former prosecutor we quoted in our story about DeSantis' proposed expansion of Florida's Stand Your Ground law has been harassed in emails.
Another former prosecutor we quoted was threatened on Twitter.
Here is the story: https://miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article247094007.html

In our story, a former Miami-Dade prosecutor expressed opposition to a bill that would expand Floridas Stand Your Ground law to allow deadly force on looters and people engaged in criminal mischief at a business. This was an email response she received https://miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article247094007.html#storylink=bignews_main

Just fire them all and let Florida be the wild west. If someone's dog shits in your yard, shoot the fuck outta them. If someone runs a redlight, shoot out their tires. See a jaywalker? Kneecap those fuckers...they wont pull that shit again. Etc, etc, etc.
God, these people are so fucking stupid.

(2,017 posts)3. The Florida Legislature will not pass this
The SYG law was opposed by virtually all law enforcement and many prosecutors and was supposed to be a narrow law. With the way it has been bastardized(with everyone claiming "SYG" when shooting unarmed people) there is no way the Legislature is going to expand it to cover property crimes, especially property that does not belong to the armed individual.

Its clear that the Trump beauty pageant is still going on with governors and senators, who all want to be the next Trump. And the governor is clearly a very good contestant, said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, a former federal prosecutor and Democratic state legislator who was a critic of the Stand Your Ground law, when it first passed in 2005.
