After he's pardoned, by either himself or Pence, he'll be immune for his past federal crimes.
However, he's got top secret information somewhere in whatever passes for his brain. And he also has a big mouth. It's impossible for him to keep a secret.
Does anyone really believe he won't be monitored by our security agencies after he leaves the White House? At some point, the greedy prick will try to sell some top (military? nuclear?) secrets to the highest bidder. And in so doing, he'll be nailing his own ass to the wall by having committed sedition.
However his pardon came about, it won't mean shit regarding any crime he commits after being pardoned. The very first time he passes top secret info to Moscow, Iran, China, or whoever for a big payday, he's done.
And that will be the end of Donald Trump. He will end not with a bang but a whimper.

(1,990 posts)There's no way he wont. He'll blurt out something in a tweet trying to criticize Biden at minimum(he'll reference some top secret weapon, etc.. something).
(Side note: Most legal scholars believe SCOTUS would rule 9-0 against a POTUS pardoning himself and it is a legal gray area, at best, as to whether a person can be pardoned for a crime they have not been charged with and convicted of. So don't bet on a Trump pardon for anything.)

(5,814 posts)I am not a constitutional scholar but I can't imagine that the framers would have intended to leave such a gaping hole in the law. Hypothetically, if the president committed treason or some other very serious federal crime, why should he be able to pardon himself or others involved in the crime? Wouldn't this essentially amount to a prima facia obstruction of justice? Shouldn't the presidency be held to a high standard in regard to how it makes pardons?
