Is this a good reason for President Biden to offer e.g. Sen. Collins a cabinet spot?

She would be replaced in the Senate by a Democratic governor with a Democrat, and I think she might actually accept.

Obviously that could have the potential to alter the Senate in our favor. Is there a second R senator from D. gov. state in case we need both seats after Georgia? Or a better choice than *gag* Collins?

Am I nuts? I have no clue where she would fit. Too bad we don't have a Dept. of Hypocrisy or Concern.

On Edit: Maine was just the first example that occurred to me. My essential point is that isn't giving up a cabinet post (or 2) in exchange for control of the Senate absolutely worth it. Anyway, I'm sure Moscow Mitch would promise to sic Puttie Poots on anyone who accepted, so likely a moot point. Sigh...

1. If there was a guarantee she'd accept, I'd say offer it.

Would have saved lot of campaign cash. Then a week later, when he's "concerned" over her performance, he should fire her.

because she'd be as terrible a cabinet member as she is a senator.

4. The same could be said for Toomey who might sign on since he is not running for re-election.

PA's Dem governor would replace Toomey.

19. I wonder if the other senator from KS could be appointed Sec. of Agriculture.

The Dem governor of the state would appoint a replacement.

The problem is we don't have many states with a Dem governor and a Republican senator who is not a complete nut/asshole (such as Kentucky with its pair of asshole Repub senators).

18. That isn't playing nice. It's acting strategically.

Replacing a rePuke senator with a Democratic senator. Cabinet positions aren't worth a pitcher of warm spit anyway, except for State, Defense, and Homeland Security. Collins would make a fine Secretary of Agriculture...she could praise Maine's potato crop until the cows come home. Toomey, at Commerce, would be a sterling example of bi-partisanship, making speeches, cutting ribbons, and the like. Cabinet secretaries have less real power than lieutenant governors.

You let the Democratic Governor replace them, you take back control of the Senate, then you fire them. Two birds, one stone. Or in this case, it's like 3 or 4 birds.

And why would he take a cabinet post if it meant giving the Democrats control of the Senate.

The postulated scenario isn't just unlikely -- it's completely disconnected from reality fantasy

23. List of possibilities from Celerity on another thread:

WI Johnson
PA Toomey - asshat deluxe, but the least worst of a shitbox lot
NC Burr (retiring in 2022) - probably the likely to take the deal I think, I might be wrong
NC Tillis (assuming he wins, which is likely, so pissed at Foxx and Stein for not running, Stein probably in 2020, Foxx in 2022 for the open seat from Burr's retirement)
KS Marshall (just won, an open seat too! in good part due to Sibelius refusing to run)
KS Moran
LA Kennedy
LA Cassidy
ME Collins (ugh, Susan Rice would have won IMHO, Gideon was a weak candidate)
KY Paul
KY Moscow (zero chance, he will be the 2nd most powerful person on the planet (or 3rd, after Xi) unless we sweep the 2 GA runoffs, the Rethug Senate is going to be a NIGHTMARE)

A few real turds on that list, but others might be tolerable in a post where they canít do much damage.
