'You Can See The Regret': ICU Nurse On Patients Who Failed To Take COVID Precautions

Even now, Mobley says, she sees many people who still don't wear masks. That's particularly hard for her, as a nurse who treats critical COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

She says she encounters "multiple patients" on "every shift" who acknowledge they didn't take the warnings seriously.

"A lot of times before they're intubated — which means put on a ventilator because they can't breathe on their own — when they're still struggling to breathe, and they're saying, 'Well, I didn't know COVID was real, and I wish I'd worn a mask.' And then it's already too late," she tells NPR's All Things Considered. "You can see the regret, as they're struggling to breathe and it's finally hitting them that this is real. It makes me very sad.
In her experience, it has been mostly patients in their 40s and 50s who come to realize they should have done more or taken the coronavirus more seriously.

But she also treats a lot of elderly patients who, she says, were probably infected by relatives. Those families, she says, are now "very remorseful about not doing more to keep their family members safe."

Or maybe I just really really don't want an American president to have blood on his hands

But after reading this, how can anyone deny it?

Each and every time he contradicted the scientists and medical teams, I knew. When he said people should drink bleach, I knew. Hospitals were begging for PPE to protect themselves, I knew. When the hospitals had to rent more refrigerator trucks as temporary morgues I knew.

All this time, he knew and did nothing. He is not just letting them die, he is killing them with false information and knowingly spreading the virus. We knew. He knew.

People who accepted obvious reality and took steps to avoid catching it but got it anyway ... I weep for them. And there's plenty like that to feel bad for.

But this isn't early March. Anyone who got it because they didn't 'believe in it' so flaunted all precautions ... can pretty much drop dead for all I care. Poetic Justice.

And what they have done to our Medical community is criminal. This has been going on for 11 months, tRump knew and lied to the American people.

I was going to go on at greater length. Give some concrete examples, etc. Decided to refrain, because it wasn't really "on topic" for the string. But it's definitely a real thing -- and it's definitely worthy of some discussion and exposure.

Confirmation bias is certainly alive and well in the medical community!
(and then you can throw in a little holy roller, superstitious woo, and a dollop of just flat out ignorance and arrogance.)

science part of it. To be fair, I work with people that are not in the critical care setting so it would be easier for them to deny reality. All the people I know from critical care, have a very different outlook. I'm sure there's people out there, though, that don't believe it until it happens to them. And until it really HURTS them, it doesn't matter and much easier to deny, be careless and cavalier. Those people are consistent w republicans: they only care about themselves.

Plus, I'm enraged that they get to take up valuable hospital space, equipment, and nursing time because of their willful ignorance.

It's not as though Covid just showed up two weeks ago.

I said a while back, and I'll say it again: what honestly needs to happen is that more well-known people die from this disease. Not that I'm wishing it on anyone, least of all any specific person, but so far the most high profile person to have died is Herman Cain, and I suspect a lot of people out there (not here) haven't a clue who he was. Plus, he was hospitalized for a month and was out of sight of anyone for that time.

We need some of the meaningless celebrities -- you know who they are -- to get it and die. Then, and only then, will those who know who all of those people are but haven't a clue who their Representative is, understand that it's real.

tRump has (innocent blood of Americans) on his hands.

He is a thug and a danger to the country.
