This is all bluster, designed to make himself appear relevant.

(16,616 posts)Just watched this interview with Mary Trump. In addition to his physical woes, mental illness and cognitive decline, she points out that his fragile ego will never allow him to put himself in a position of losing ever again. She believes her uncle is experiencing humiliation, helplessness and rage unlike anything he's ever had to face before, and there's no one to rescue him, and that he'll never want to even risk experiencing these feelings again.

(19,264 posts)The second he officially begins his 2024 candidacy the grift train can restart full speed ahead. The MAGAs are the stupidest marks that Trump has ever encountered in 60 years of being a conman. He isn't going to give that up.

Of course, if she wasn't such an airhead and a Trump. That might help to get her to a 27% approval rate.

(47,418 posts)It is just another ruse that he will use to hold onto his base, feed his ego, and of course make money.
Meanwhile, it is all downhill for Trump from this point on.

(47,418 posts)I was really surprised that once Joe won, republicans in congress still stood by him. The gaslighting was really far more intense and thorough than I'd realized. Hard to believe how weak and easily intimidated these people are. Apparently there is no principle worth fighting for, as they put their political careers above morality and the country they claim to love.
I guess their devotion goes only as far as wearing a flag pin, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and paying lip service to our soldiers. Of course they'll always stand during the national anthem, but they won't stand up to a corrupt tyrant as he destroys the democracy the serve. It is truly disgraceful. History will not remember them well.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Their base likely would remember their "betraying" the party now, whereas most of their usual betrayals could be painted over SOP before the next election.
But, those studying the increasing authoritarianism of the Republican Party say that when it "fell off the cliff" with Trump, a lot of Republicans officeholders jumped off with it. We're seeing them fully embracing fascistic tactics for obtaining power, including demonization without limits.
Reportedly, a 2020 report from over 600 political scientists will show that the Republican Party now compares to Viktor Orban's in Hungary. And almost all of them have been reelected by conservative voters who've also leaped or been swept over that cliff.
Btw, regarding the unusually clean (!) 2020 elections, my favorite guess is that the Republicans sabotaged the election theft they depend on to win by causing both increased scrutiny by national security agencies and increased attention by the citizenry.
And now the rage of our wannabe-full-on-fascists at losing!

PatSeg
(47,418 posts)that once they go too far, there is no path back. They know they are stuck there and are probably regretting not keeping a low profile throughout the Trump administration. The quiet ones have a better chance of surviving. Even though they were too cowardly to speak up, at least they didn't draw attention to themselves.
It is kind of like getting involved with the mob. You don't get a little bit involved and then change your mind and say, "Oh this isn't for me". Either you're in or you're out, there is no middle ground. Once the taint is on you, it never washes off.
Good point about republicans sabotaging their own predictable election theft. Oops!

(32,080 posts)The same goes for his reality TV show and TV network, and whatever else they're claiming he has planned. If he's not dead, he'll likely be incapacitated by another stroke, or by heart disease, or both. All the drugs they have been pumping him with are not going to mitigate his shitty lifestyle, or all the stress he is undoubtedly under. Or, the aftereffects of his COVID-19 infection, along with the side-effects from all of those drugs, and all the ones he's taking on his own.

With DJT in 2023-24 struggling with dementia and his ass screwed to a wheelchair, I can see 50 Repukes trying to be either the candidate or the kingmaker. There maybe some violent showdowns a la OK corral. I don't see them as a threat in 2024. The real threat is in 2022 to the control of both house of congress.

Interestingly, the corpse might be a much better candidate -- it would lie far less than if a live Trump were to run.

(3,910 posts)The White House physician has an office inside the White House. The location of his or her medical unit plays an important role in keeping the President of the United States healthy. He or she also oversees a staff which is typically composed of five military physicians, five physician assistants, five nurses, three paramedics, three administrators and one IT Manager. The White House Physician is metaphorically the "shadow of the President" because he or she is always close at hand whether the President is at the White House, overseas, on the campaign trail, or aboard presidential plane Air Force One. It's just unfortunate that knowing the end is near, Trump doesn't possess Hitler's courage.
