Am I a radical for thinking the potus should be first and foremost a servant of the people?

I am willing to grant the president more privilege when it comes to foreign policy, but that is for the convenience of the country, that dealing with foreign entities can be done in a more coordinated manner. That foreign policy is a RESPONSIBILITY rather than something the potus can screw around on.

But other than that, the potus is co-equal with the heads of other branches of governments and is ultimately a servant of the public trust, the first in precedent among other servants of the public trust in the government.

Not the pope of the government.
Not a religious leader.
Not a messianic figure.
Not the CEO of America.
Not the face of white America or America from 50 years ago.

So when I see this nonsense...

Shortly after 10 a.m., Trump drove down Pennsylvania Avenue in his motorcade, greeting hundreds of cheering protesters who ran to the side of Freedom Plaza and clambered to catch a glimpse. He smiled and waved from a car window as people filled the street to follow behind.

"He drove right past me. I saw him. He waved right past me," one man said, squatting to collect himself. ... A group of women huddled around their phone, looking at a video they took of Trump's appearance. ... "He looked fake," one said. "I'm still shaking."

And it makes me think of the Leader from the Simpsons, I'm afraid we're almost like Imperial Japan where they saw the Emperor as a descendant of the gods. We're going to need to call this out, this won't end with Trump, the 30% will try to drag us down this very dark path, but I have hope we can resist this.
