General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI heard on one of the CNN or MSNBC, the Michigan GOP is asking for a 13 day delay to recount Wayne.
the RNC head Ronna McDaniel and the head of the Michigan Republican party are asking in writing for a 13 day delay while Wayne County is recounted. They are asking the two GOP canvassers not to vote for certification...This would likely mean the vote would not be certified by 12/13;I have no idea if this can work or not...thoughts?

(12,369 posts)Not to fear, the certification of the remaining states will go forward as required by the laws of those states and PE Joe Biden will be awarded 306 electoral votes, which, along with the popular vote, is a landslide.

(7,296 posts)I have been keeping up with the legal arguments and simply put, the State Canvassing Board has no authority to do anything like this. Neither does the legislature. I guarantee that if the board deadlocks, the SOS will fill an emergency request to the courts to issue a Writ of Mandamus instructing the board to certify the results as required by law.
This is what I was talking about yesterday (and getting tut-tutted about it). The GOP will try this, but the law is NOT on their side.

(1,235 posts)They should be called out for singling out that county. Recount the whole state or nothing

(35,438 posts)They should have to pay for an expedited recount, multiple shifts working around the clock.
"We are happy to do a recount for you!" Put your money on the table, cash only, no personal or GOP party checks.

(5,499 posts)This needs to be dealt with swiftly and severely. We should show zero tolerance for this type of obstruction.
I think the mid-term elections should be about Republicans hating our democratic process. The hate that the will of the voters has to be honored.
Each time they refer to the Democratic party as socialist we should immediately counter with the fact that they are fascist authoritarianists.

(12,369 posts)there won't be any delay.
They can ask for whatever the fuck they want, the DEM SoS will deep six their requests and on Mon., the vote will be certified by the state canvassing board, and if that doesn't happen, two things will happen, either the court will require them to certify, or the court will do it, or, Gov. Whitmer can remove those that refuse to do their mandatory duty and appoint those that will.

But I want this crammed down their throats. I remember how quickly Republicans wanted to shut down any talks of recounts or irregularities in 2016.

(166 posts)Thanx Happy Hoosier for the info that, it let me exhale. This has been such a harrowing experience! Demsrule86, this is very interesting info after reading about the "wine and dine" bash after the meeting. I wonder if he even met them? Maybe just sent a sucking lackey to suss the Michigan Militia out...

(3,427 posts)Biden won Wayne County by 68.3%-30.3%.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton won 66.4%-29.3% (Gary Johnson took 2.4%).
Also, Biden's 68.3% share of the vote this year is considerably lower than Obama's 73.1% in 2012.
There's nothing to see here.

(1,178 posts)So the strategy they seem to be going with now is run out the clock on certifications so that the electors don't have to abide.

(1,178 posts)It's no different with these "investigations of fraud" they want to conduct before the votes can be certified. No actual investigation would take place....it's just a matter of keeping the votes from being certified, knowing the Electoral College won't wait.

(9,760 posts)that he was victorious, but got cheated by the demonic Dems. This keeps his cult happy and dying (in some cases literally) to give him more money through various channels--purchasing his not-made-in-America "America First" crap merchandise, buying tickets to his future ego rallies, and direct donations.
Not saying I'm 100% confident his Trump-U-quality lawyers won't manage to pull some sort of rabid rabbit out of a moldy hat, but people who know more than I do seem to think it's highly unlikely.

(145,176 posts)I strongly believe that trump will not succeed but I will feel a great better when the Michigan certification is final . trump is doing his best to either get the GOP state legislature to put their own delegation of electors or to delay the selection of electors. We need to be viligent
