I'm doing in-patient physical rehab right now and I have to be here for a couple more weeks. Each person has to stay in his own room and do exercise in there for the first two weeks so that they can make sure we don't have Covid before they let us start using the gym. I'm still in that quarantine period, so I won't be having much interaction with others. But at least I can go on DU today, so it won't be all that bad.

It was so surreal. I was on the opposite side of the highway and then I saw all of these flashing lights and in the middle of them was the ambulance. All other traffic had to completely stop for them. It was right by the Wilmington exit. I was super excited..

My decor is Mason jars ever since this pandemic thing started. My daughter came by last week (she isolates like me, so we're relatively safe, I think) and said it looked like my collection was growing. I should probably actually say glass storage jars, because some aren't Mason.

Learn to use the tools and keep it simple! 4 knives. A Chef, paring, boning and bread.

4 Cast Iron skillets and a Dutch oven and high quality stainless saucepans and skillets.

I do have a rice cooker. Being from Louisiana(probably explains a man who cooks) we eat tons of rice. The advantage of a rice cooker is I can serve warm rice even 30 minutes after the rest of the meal is done as it has that handy Keep setting it switches into when done.

I hate kitchen gadgets. I did not even know there was an egg cooker. Isn’t that a pot of boiling water? Or bake them. They are better that way.

Have a nice evening.

Sun Nov 29, 2020, 11:45 AM
Nov 2020

I think that after years of not having what I needed, I overdid it. I remember all of the years I'd have to wash forks in between dinner and dessert whenever we'd have a gathering of any kind. And there were never enough serving spoons, so I have an abundance now.

The one "gadgety" thing that I really enjoy having is an air fryer. I bought one a few years ago when I found one at a super cheap price on Black Friday. After the rebate, it was $5. This year, when my daughter-in-law and grandson stayed with me for a few weeks to quarantine, I got a bigger one - the Instant Vortex Plus. I love it, particularly in the summer.

Nov 2020

Hard to come to grips with events, just like everyone else. No turkey dinner with a million plates to wash, no leftovers, no happy family chats.

My daughter and S-I-L are doctors and are on the hospital front lines. I have not seen them since March. I'm and old timer with health problems and they want to keep me safe.
I just found out they tested negative after each met last week with patients who were exposed and who told them they needed to be seen but both were not mask wearers. Had to put them on to get into the hospital. Of course, they wanted to be seen and tested...but, "me wear a mask., no way".

I'm sick of these entitled people who feel that they are exempt from the rules. Wear the freaking mask, distance, stay close to home and don't put your doctors on jeopardy. They are helping you, you are endangering them and their families.

Can I tell you how angry I am with these people who feel entitled to not wear a mask, not distance and then demand to see a doctor and be tested? Selfish and self centered.

Thank heaven both family members tested negative but they still will have to go to the hospital daily to treat patients. What will happen next? I'm frightened for the front line workers. My daughter told me they expect a big influx of patients in 3 weeks after those who celebrate Thanksgiving carelessly and then demand tests.

The medical professionals are exhausted. What is wrong with people anyway. My way or no way? Damn the non-mask wearers and those who still have large gatherings. I know we all miss our families but better safe than sick..or worse.

Nov 2020

Having lived alone most of my life my tradition has always been to do something active, do a movie, eat cioppino stew, (since I'm semi-vegetarian) at a local restaurant, with my boyfriend, and then later have homemade dessert. That has been changed slightly this year. I will go on a short 5 mile hike with my boyfriend. Then we will come home and watch a movie on TV. Dinner will be Spicy Seafood Stew, that I made myself, with a green salad and crusty bread. Dessert later in the evening will be homemade bread pudding with whiskey sauce!! Yum-yum!! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We have a lot to be thankful this year with number one being that Donald Trump will not be President much longer!!!!

We're staying home.
Me, wife, neighbor & the beasties. The only place our neighbor goes is home & our house. (She is a Downs' person so doesn't do her own shopping.)
My wife found a tiny turkey breast. We made a stuffing casserole. (I chopped stuff and dirtied my hands mixing it.)
She's making sweet potatoes & corn.
Just got done making a flour/butter roux. I used butter, lemon zest, white wine & minced garlic, added the roux to that, then poured in turkey dripping and chicken stock, and reduced. Gravy is done.
She's going to the care home for a window visit with her brother, then we'll eat.

I have to admit, I wasn't really here the entire time. I watched a couple of movies, had a video chat with one of my sons and family, and phone calls with two of my other kids. Did a little reading. Went for a little drive.

My daughter told me there was a shooting over in the area of town where she lives. So sad. People get kind of crazy on holidays sometimes. We had our share of drama in my own family years ago, but fortunately nothing ever escalated to the point where there was physical harm. The last real holiday gathering we had was last Christmas, and it was just the nicest holiday I've ever had in my entire life. I draw on the memory of that to help me cope with how different things are this year.

I hope everyone had a good day yesterday, and stayed safe and healthy. And welcome to DU, GrassClippings!
