Who should serve as Biden's Agriculture Secretary?

A fight is breaking out among Democrats over who Joe Biden should pick to be his Secretary of Agriculture.

The president-elect has yet to appoint the person who will head up the Agriculture Department, which oversees various agencies including the United States Forest Service, the United States Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the Food Stamp Program.

South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn - who is widely seen as playing a crucial role in Biden's Democratic primary victory - told The New York Times on Thursday that Biden should name Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge to the powerful position.

Fudge - a black woman who currently leads the nutrition and oversight panel on the House Agriculture Committee - also has the support of two of Biden's closest advisors, according to the Times.

and kind of surprised at Clyburn on this.

Ag Sec is NOT 'ceremonial;' lots of substance there.

Rethugs probably just raffle that off to the highest bidder after finding out there is even such a thing as Agriculture on their first day in office.

I think the Democratic hold on the House is shaky right now and needs all the support it can get

Ag Department is a major mess at this point and it will take someone who knows Banking as well as the ins and outs of just what Agriculture is all about'

Collin Peterson is most likely a front runner since he lost his House Seat.

Going to take someone who can fix all the damage caused by the present Ag Secretary.

On a lot of votes, the President can’t pull too many Members of the House as the only way to get to the House is by election. The Governors can not appoint. It takes a special election.

Maybe even more than that now with Covid. I'd like to see someone who sees if we don't feed children we are literally and figuratively starving our future. There are enough millionaire farmers already.
