Yes, When you get into a car, you put it on. It saves lives. Many true stories about that....
Mask wearing will be exactly the same. Awful, petty, ugly....but,................
It saves lives...!!!!!...
.....I remember arguing in a high school class (in late 80s) that I taught, about .....wearing a seatbelt...
This was long before it became a law in almost all states....(?).
Now, you just do it...same with masks...Everyone will just ....do it..It will become part of the deal...

(10,659 posts)Depending on the state you live in. It was law in the state I grew up by time I started driving (1985).
I dont think Id be here if it were not a law - been in more than one accident where the belt saved me.

(216,805 posts)And I've seen lighted signs on the roads recently that remind us that seatbelts are now required in back seats too.

(27,057 posts)Most of the people wore masks. One of the notables that didn't was a police officer at a local convenience store. Felt like giving him shit, but didn't.

(18,402 posts)they have a cold or such, but still are well enough to go outto prevent giving it to others, or even to protect themselves when bad colds are going around. People have been doing this in Japan, South Korea, and China for many decades, and its very commonplace.
I know Ill wear one when I get back to riding the trains and buses during cold season.

(4,726 posts)Oh, the wringing of hands! Nobody around me wore seatbelts very often. My dad was afraid he'd be trapped in a burning car. One grandma thought they were uncomfortable and mussed her clothes (she got a ticket for no seatbelt once, and boy the outrage). My other grandparents only wore them on road trips. When I was a child, I tended to climb all over in the car, back seat to front. I thought it was silly to wear a seat belt. Of course, it didn't take long til it was automatic for me to put one on.

(43,435 posts)Mask wearing will become standard until the vaccine successfully tamps down on the risks of transmission to the public. After that you will slowly see mask wearing wane away for the most part.
Risk of automobile accidents dont ebb and flow like contagious viruses do, so that is here to stay forever.

(23,542 posts)It's a routine that I think will be around for quite some time I think. Even w/ the advent of the vaccines coming out, it will take time to finally stamp this thing out (hoping that in the meantime the CV doesn't mutate too drastically either).

(34,661 posts)properly . So many do not cover their noses. As for seat belts,if you used a corporate car or truck, you had to buckle up and that was in the sixties.

(21,368 posts)That is the only reason many people wear a seat belt. It will be the only reason many wear a face mask.

(38,726 posts)That will take some time, but I think that is coming at some time in the future...

(21,368 posts)It can't be done by the states. If it is, some states will have fines and some wont and that will solve nothing. To continue this line of thinking, if it is Government mandated, it must be done by a Democratic administration. This could backfire big time at election time.
Unfortunately, it is the 'Merica we live in.

Ive been wearing seatbelts since 1984, when it became law in New York), and I can recall only one time, probably 15 years ago, where I recall a roadblock stop and check for seatbelts.
Mostly, its used to pull over and harass Black drivers, I suspect, as secondary enforcement.
I think most people wear seatbelts because (a) its a law; and (b) many years of state and national safety education and promotion. I dont think its because of the threat of a fine. People do it because they finally got it through their heads that it could prevent fatalities.

(36,144 posts)My oldest brother bought a new convertible in 1968. It had seat belts and he wouldn't start it unless everyone was buckled, "It's got em; you wear 'em." I was just the right age that a ride in a ragtop with a 396 was nirvanna. I buckled that belt. Hey, NHRA and NASCAR insisted on belts. I adopted his rule when I was in the driver's seat, too.

(82,383 posts)when they say they won't "live in fear" of the virus by wearing a mask. If they don't want to "live in fear" then why do they bother with other precautions?
