One third of Americans believe things that are obviously not true.
I think it is the biggest story of the century, and no one is talking about it.
From the Russia Hoax, to the Covid Hoax. From trickle down to believing all of Trump's 23,000 lies.
Crazy Town.
It is a problem, and we are just supposed to suffer the consequences, or simply die because they don't care about anything but pure, raw power.
It is time every single media person, not on the take starts asking Republicans real questions about the crazy crap they spew.

(146,288 posts)They believe things for which there is no evidence at all. It's called religious belief. There is no evidence for the existence of any deity or other supernatural entity, yet a vast majority of people believe that such entities exist and have enormous power.
So, there's nothing at all unusual in people believing things that are not demonstrably true.
We humans readily believe all sorts of things for which we don't even bother to check for evidence of reality.
Sorry, but that's the truth.

(33,643 posts)That's precisely why Evangelicals make such great marks for cons.
Just by being one you are advertising to the world that 'facts' and 'evidence' are largely meaningless when it comes to 'what you can be led to believe'.

(146,288 posts)I'm just pointing out that belief in things that have no evidence of even existing is a very common thing. I don't care what anyone believes, really. I care how they behave.
People will believe whatever they can believe, I suppose. But, it's wrong to go after people who believe some unproven thing if you also believe in unproven things without any evidence. How you behave is what matters, regardless of what you believe is real or not real.

(29,067 posts)Good job avoiding that blunder into false equivalence.

(22,000 posts)and cosmology? Paranormal phenomena? NDEs and OBEs?
Why do billions upon billions of people throughout history and in the world today
practice some sort of belief in a reality that science does not have the means of probing
yet or possibly of even ever formulating a verifiable (or refutable) theory?
I don't think it's fair to equate religious belief with cultism (such as Trumpism).

(33,327 posts)Republican Pols will not address this issue in good faith.
In fact, they will not respond to any question asked by the "MSM" in good faith.
Per David Brooks, it's up to Libs to reach out to the deluded, and we're supposed to do it for a Generation.
