https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/30/republicans-freedom-force-squad-burgess-owens?A group of incoming Republican congresspeople intends to counter the radical agenda of the Democratic party, with the self-professed goal of becoming the Republican partys alternative to the Squad a group of progressive congresswomen of color including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.
Calling themselves the Freedom Force, the Republicans say they will combat the evil of socialism and Marxism.
We love our nation. This group will be talking against and giving a contrast to the hard left. We have the Freedom Force versus Squad; we have a group of people who believe in our country, believe in God, family, respect for women and authority, and another group who hates everything I just mentioned, the Utah congressman-elect Burgess Owens told the Fox News host Laura Ingraham, speaking as a representative of the Freedom Force.
Owens said the group would aim to protect small business owners and the middle class. Business ownership is the foundation of our freedom, he said on Fox & Friends Weekend. Its where our middle class comes from. He added that the middle class got its power from small businesses, while the left got its power from misery.

As a final warning to Democrats, he added: Youre collateral damage if you run a business and you want to go to church and you want to put your kids in school; youre collateral damage thats the way the evil Marxists and socialists roll.

(10,252 posts)For 100+ years, Republicans have been running against those scarey and dangerous Marxists and Socialists. I'm so tired of it. Most people don't evebn know what is Marxism andbSocialism, much less the difference between the two. So I guess their fear-mongering will now switch from Moslems to reds and pinkos. Their stupidity disgusts me.

If you're going to use Congress as your high-fantasy LARP, can you at least bring your real, live dragons? That would have the saving grace of being cool.
Not metaphorical ones, mind you. Only scaly beasties like Drogon or Vermithrax or Smaug qualify.

(58,785 posts)white nationalist like the overwhelmingly male Freedom Caucus -- but separate and come for battle. The rhetoric's all anti-Democratic now, but!
Setting: An increasingly fascistic Republican Party that, like all RW authoritarian movements, is inimical to women's rights. They've been running women out of power, cutting their women members in the house in half in 2018 (to 13!).
The GOP congress has become such a hostile workplace for women that some of the 13 house survivors angrily spoke out and refused to run for reelection for that reason. That was an emergency for a party caught with its dick out in its war on women, and McConnell and McCarthy had to tuck them back in long enough to rustle up some women to run for office.
These freshmen may be some of those or possibly survivors of battles with local GOP powers. Just how this plays out will be interesting. Can McConnell and McCarthy make caucuses packed with corrupt authoritarian white males act like kinder and gentler conservatives toward yet more castrating females invading their territory? Everyone angry these days? Presumably there'll be a show of unity to begin...
And then of course there's also the issue of whether even more very noisy RW extremists is really what the party needs. Having been shown by "the squad" how effective, and effectively free, Twitter exchanges are for getting attention, they promise a whole session of their own Twitter Slurpy-slingings.

(21,565 posts)So I assume we can look forward to their support in passing a new stimulus package?
This seems like a strange statement from the party that has condemned so many small businesses to death due to lack of relief funds.
