(24,784 posts)Obligatory trip to Costco during special hours yesterday - appreciate how consistent they have been through this pandemic!
Another store I had to go to, sign said masks "strongly encouraged," despite Governors mandate. Will not be going back there. Think ill let them know.

(5,954 posts)you have to be more specific. It has to say "A Mask that covers your mouth and nose" is required. Apparently a large segment of our population is not aware that our noses are used in respiration.

(5,954 posts)We practically scream it at them now. That's what it takes to get through to someone from Dumbfuckistan.

(21,673 posts)business owners call out the nose gapers. I see them every time I have to go into a store. Or, they wear them in and then slide them down to their necks. Employees never say anything to them. Sometimes the employees themselves leave their noses hanging out.

(1,852 posts)Please wear your mask over your nose.
It's a mask, not a chinstrap.
Most people who come in chuckle at the sign in appreciation.
We've had various signs on the front door, but the owners put the most recent one up when they noticed that they needed to tell more people to wear the mask correctly and cover their nose.
We ask folks "do you have a mask, or do you need one?" if they're not wearing one and don't put one on when they enter the store.
Our first sign said "thank you for wearing your mask" but we realized it wasn't specific enough.
I agree, many people are clueless and need things spelled out and reinforced.

(6,448 posts)We should just say our goodbyes to them now. They've already identified who they are by their actions.
Is their philosophy called Jenny McCarthyism? She was the one who superspread this theory.

(6,221 posts)In fact... we live in a small town where the UPS dropoffs for returned merchandise can be drop. The first time we tried to drop off a package, no one was wearing masks. We call the regional UPS center and complained. Two days later, we tried again, and everyone had on masks.
BUT several weeks later, the staff were back to not wearing masks. We called the vendor, explained the situation, and asked them to issue a pickup for the package. They did at no additional cost. Normally there can be a fee for the return unless it is dropped off.

(833 posts)and got an opening message. You must wear a mask to enter any of our stores. If you don't have a mask, we'll provide you with one, free. If you choose not to wear a mask, shop online. A more polite way of saying what this sign says, but equally direct and firm. As deaths mount, more businesses are going to take this stand. My daughter operates two restaurants: take-out only, delivered outside the building.

(32,831 posts)In Pittsburgh we have almost 100% compliance, at least everywhere I've shopped. Many grocery stores and larger stores like Walmart, Target, etc. have an employee at the front door checking to make sure every customer who enters is wearing a mask.
The troublemakers know they have to wear the mask to get in, but they take it off or slide it down their face once they get past the door guard. The store managers sometimes need pointers on how to get these people out of the store if they refuse to put the mask back on properly. I think once customers understand the "zero tolerance" policy, they either comply or leave. Just don't allow them to get away with their shit, and the rest of your customers will all appreciate it.

(12,821 posts)... when it's a really about protecting others. Because, face it, if you're out and about you simply cannot guarantee you haven't been exposed -- especially since there's probably lots of others around you also not wearing masks. And do YOU know where each and every one of those people has been, or who they've been with? No, you dont.

(11,572 posts)Sometimes, the local news will air some video of the idiot, and it's usually their belligerence that causes the police to be called. I've now seen several people be fined for no mask and/or bad behaviour, and two different young men who were each fined $2300 for hosting a prohibited gathering.
Here is the Dumbfuckistan part:
For each of those two, it was their second fine. $9200 bucks into the govt. coffers from just these two. You'd think that would get people's attention.
