Pence is brighter than I thought (not a high bar to cross). A pardon of trmp would be the kiss of death to what remains of Pence's career

(45,012 posts)Supply and demand. Pence may be just as vile but he's not as dumb as Trump.

(16,936 posts)he actually might be getting some advice from "Mother" - or anybody else that's still around him and willing to risk their own career future on someone that actually agreed to serve as BunkerBoy's #1 Stooge/A$$kisser!

(6,377 posts)Refusal to pardon Trump would be seen as a betrayal to the MAGATS, who would never vote for him for anything ever again.
No win situation for him.

(89,259 posts)corporate boards type stuff . It's already going to be difficult becsuse of his association witb Trump.
And Pence is not Wealthy.
I don't think he has enough federal service to be able to retire. He will have only 16 years in Congress and I don't think that's enough for a pension under the FERPS. VPs don't get a presidential pension.
JI7
(89,259 posts)StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)He doesn't get a vice presidential pension, but at 61 and with more than 10 years of service, he's entitled to get a pension, although it will slightly reduced (about a 2.5% penalty) because he's 6 months short of 62.

(16,936 posts)it was pure luck on his part that BunkerBoy picked him to begin with. He did not have the "connections" - history - experience to ever work his way up to be an actual "presidential" candidate.
I see him as another Dan Quayle - far exceeded his "Peter Principle" potential..........

(25,868 posts)able to pardon?
And Pence has no political future anyway. He will do well enough financially, as he'll no doubt get very highly paid speaking engagements and be appointed to equally well-paid corporate boards. In short, he won't have to work even as hard as he has these past four years.
JI7
(89,259 posts)even in the last week or days . And Pence becomes President and pardons him.
But Pence is probably thinking how that could hurt him from getting jobs in the future.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,868 posts)Not even at 8am on January 20th, so Pence can sign a pardon.
He will either try to pardon himself, or slip away somewhere over Christmas and not return to DC at all. Although I don't think there's much likelihood of that happening, as he's too narcissistic to be out of the spotlight for more than twenty minutes at a time.

Utility pole - the only wires he should ever hold would be for the FBI
Store mannequin - gotta' give it to him, some women think he's pretty OK
Ventriloquist's dummy - why not - he's had Donnie's hand up there for the past 4 years!
Fire hydrant - Ah, the visual - all the neighborhood dogs giving tribute...........
Festivus pole - I think Frank Costanza would actually approve!

(805 posts)Why would trump resign otherwise?
llmart
(15,545 posts)I'd bet my bottom dollar that he's not so squeaky clean in this whole rigmarole. So Trump tells Pence he'll resign if Pence pardons him. Pence does that and I'm sure there's already plenty evidence of Pence's collaboration/knowledge on whatever schemes the trump crime family have been involved in.

(6,279 posts)As governor he had just been dragged by the entire Indiana business community over his support of the state "Religious Freedom Restoration Act," legislation crafted to pander to his homophobic base. Even the usual mindless boosters of Hoosier Republicans (the folks who were plugging first Mitch Daniels and then Pence as possible presidential candidates the moment they entered the Governor's mansion) stopped talking up Pence as being viable at the national level, and there was real concern that he might not be re-elected.
Then along came Trump to elevate the incompetent from a mess of his own creation...
