Our Medical Professionals are showing and telling us this pandemic is not a hoax, and must be taken seriously.

(63,913 posts)compare our medical professionals to being in a war. A thankless on the line position to be in.

(9,998 posts)Sorry, but it's preaching to the choir. Anybody already watching Rachel Maddow knows this.
are very aware of this pandemic, you almost wish those who are in denial would have seen Rachel's story and what the nursing staff are going through everyday.

(49,445 posts)I did it for the first 5 months of this. I figured if i didn't get it, I couldn't transmit it. I was still gong to work and general mall usage was indifferent. Plus I was doing all the shopping for my parents.
Then shifted to a simple cloth mask when the cases dropped and I began doing the Census. I figured with me talking to strangers all the time, I had to protect my co-workers from ME.
But after seeing how Thanksgiving went, I'm back on the respirator. Probably until January.

(16,349 posts)wife had a colleague at work test positive, so we go in tomorrow. Not worried yet of course, but just seeing the strain our healthcare professionals are under is terrifying.

Overflow ICU was reopened and was at 80% capacity in three days. The other two backup ICU/Covid wings are now open. ED is nuts.

(5,124 posts)with me. Earlier today I started to write a rant post after another horrible day at work and then erased it. I work in mental health. The mental health system is also strained. Byproduct of all the new patients we have, due to increased depression and anxiety and other mental health issues as a result of the Pandemic - along with patients that were stable or were managing their mental illness well, now a lot more unstable.
A doctor on tv a few days ago, said it best in regards to what is happening in hospitals. We can make more beds, we can't make more staff. We have lost people at my facility too. Count me as one of them. Its become too much, I had to do it for my own sanity and I also don't think its safe to see this many patients. Its impossible to provide quality care like this.
I'm seeing a lot of articles in the healthcare circles on provider/healthcare personnel burnout. Its a real issue. You have to wonder what kind of shape the healthcare system is going to be in when its all said and done. I hear people leaving the field altogether or doing things that have nothing to do with direct patient care. I'm leaving community health to go work in a private practice. I know it will still be busy but I'm hoping to get back some control of my own life. Right now, I'm working so many hours to keep up with the demand, its just nothing I've seen before.
I can't fathom what my brothers and sisters in healthcare on the frontlines are dealing with, how stressed they are. People forget that social distancing, wearing masks, etc was not just to keep the public safe, but it was also to make sure the health care system does not collapse.
