(22,038 posts)Their opinions mean squat.
The coronavirus is currently the dominant life-form on our planet. It doesn't care if someone is "over" it. It is relentlessly trying to replicate and it doesn't think about our feelings.
I'm with you, samplegirl. Frankly, it is the epitome of selfishness to behave the way some people are acting in the face of this once-a-century health crisis.
There have been accounts from healthcare workers that some patients deny the virus even as they lie on their deathbeds from Covid-19. Damn, the stupid is powerful.

They can be over it or not, but it's here and if they're not vigilant they will get it. End of story. JFC! The ignorance is going to make my head explode one day.

I'm 'over it' meaning that it's totally exhausting.
I'm 'over it' because even though vaccines are coming through, it's going to be awhile until they are available.
I'm 'over it' watching idiots not taking precautions.

(21,108 posts)they are saying they are tired of wearing mask and not going out to be with their friends, or eating out. In some of those cases, they are the same ones who NEVER took it seriously to begin with and it's their excuse for not wearing mask.
Yes, it can mean many things.

(14,919 posts)adhering to the guidelines but are exhausted by the constant vigilance, isolation, restrictions, and having covid dominate so much of their conversations, planning, and actions. Saying that they are "over it" is just shorthand for the distress of the past several months. I'm sure other people may mean something else entirely when they say it, but context is important and some are just venting their frustration with their upsetting and ongoing reality and wishing it would just go back to "normal" even though they know it won't anytime soon.

(9,761 posts)For those that say get over it, its done look ahead to the future. The cost of trumps pandemic failure is going to be extremely high and Im not talking about money.
Even for those that a never experience a symptom of Covid their mental health is probably suffering. PTSD should be named in theses cases P.P.S.D., Post Pandemic Stress Syndrome.
My oldest son is manager of a large flower distributor in Michigan, they distribute throughout the state. His sales team, delivery drivers and warehouse workers at various times have been missing because of Covid related incidents. It has cut the workforce to the bone and everyone is covering for those out.
Before thanksgiving one of the drivers thought he had symptoms, tested and quarantined, all came back good even though he still felt a little wonky. My son asked him if he was ok, he was willing to give him additional time off. This is all with pay by the way, flowers are in great demand now a days the company is doing well.
The driver decided he was well enough to take his family to visit his parents cross state against many objections from friends and co-workers. They went. Parents are elderly and in poor health.
That was the reasoning behind the visit, now before anything happens.
His father got COVID, mother was ok, driver came down with mild case, his dad died. He blamed himself saying he murdered his dad.
Came back to work and cried on my kids shoulder they both broke down.
My son was so shaken by this mans pain he absorbed as much as he could and broke down again and anytime he relates the event.
We have no idea the amount of people that are going to be affected in matters such as this. Im a veteran of the Vietnam era, Ive helped others and myself suffering from PTSD. I think I can see some of the symptoms.
My kid and I had a long conversation about recognizing and dealing with it.
This is and will be a huge mental crisis.
NEVER FORGET WHAT THEY DID TO US. trump and his cronies are murdering people in plain sight.
The people that say get over it for the health of the country are complicit in the crimes...rule of law means nothing to them, any political party, anyone.

Said he followed all the precautions for two months, but now he "is over this".
He makes special trips over to intercept me in my drive way to tell me he thinks my precautions are overblown and he's not worried about it.
That phrase is so illogical when dealing with a virulent disease. I wonder where it comes from?
