run for president again in 2024?
The pardon is for federal offensives he may have committed when he was president. Why would you want to put a person that has accepted a presidential pardon back in the White House? It doesn't make sense.
The same goes for Donald Jr. If he accepts a presidential pardon - it would be for federal offenses he may have committed during the last four years that his father was president. I would be an admission that he's committed federal crimes. Why would you want to put such a person in the WH?

(17,865 posts)There has been several posts regarding that fact. His pardons are for the unjust prosecution that is only happening because he is an outsider who became President. He has the power to stop that persecution and he is using it.
That will be his argument.

Pence is only a year older than me. There's a lot more political destruction and civil rights to deny before he reaches Mitch and Grassley's ages. Hopefully, the public will see a pre-emptive pardon for what it is--a hint that he's guilty of something already.
Doesn't it seem like the GOP intentionally picks a VP who is nationally unelectible? Quayle, Cheney, Palin, Ryan, and Pence would get shredded at the top of a ticket. The only exception in that era might have been Jack Kemp (Bob Dole's pick in '96).

(1,604 posts)If Trump resigns, Pence not only will have less than a month to be president, but it would limit him to only one term if he should try again. His one signature act would be to pardon Trump, not something he would likely wish to be remembered by. This would also be the only reason that Trump would resign, and if he believes that there's a possibility of 2024 comeback, no matter how dubious, he's not going to resign now.

(6,448 posts)I agree with most of what you said, except for the number of Pence terms.
Remember: LBJ declined to run in 1968 for a second full term.

(6,819 posts)Lyndon Johnson was still eligible for a term in 1968. I think if you serve like less than half of another's term in you can still have two of your own.

(18,486 posts)The Constitution limits someone from running more than twice. A VP who succeeds a president with less than two years in his term can still run twice. That would apply to Pence.

I don't think Trump would trust Pence to do this. He wouldn't have any leverage, no angle, no way to bully Prez Pence.
