The Stas Reeflay incident is the logical endpoint of the YouTube model of celebrity: Reeflay didn't just kill his girlfriend on a live stream, he turned her death into a game to farm donations, likes, and channel subscriptions.

With that, Reeflay honored his viewer's request to send Grigoryeva nearly naked into the subzero cold, to her death.

This Reeflay's first foray into abuse--his channel (was) full of videos of Reeflay breaking plates over his girlfriend's head, throwing her around, emotionally and psychologically abusing her to the delight of his monetized YouTube audience.

YouTube did nothing, until now.

I learned that long ago. The sad truth is that the autoplay button somehow turns itself back on with regular visits, it never stays off-off for very long.

I've never realized it had a dark side, although of course I should have realized.

If I had to choose between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube, I wouldn't even have to think twice. And autoplay has enabled me to find some amazing videos I wouldn't have even known to look for. I mostly watch nerdy science stuff and travel stuff, though... never anything political.
