"Porch pirate," she said.
"Not so fast," I said. "Give it a day."
Sure enough, our neighbor across the street knocked on the door a couple of hours later, and handed over the misdelivered package. He was all masked-up and had gloves on.
It's easy to jump to the worst-case conclusion. Often, though, there is another possible answer. Waiting to see is usually the best choice.
These days, in politics and pandemics, we seem to be doing a lot of waiting to see. Perhaps it will all work out in the end.

The only trouble is that sometimes she tells you what's in the package. That's not so good around Christmas and birthdays.

(65,459 posts)Sometimes I get packages from neighbors down the street, too.
Of course I always deliver them to the proper recipient.

(42,594 posts)I think some kleenex with lotion I had been unable to score at my usual haunts. Package arrived and....it was from Walmart. What the? I didn't order anything from Walmart. Took a closer look at it and it had my next door neighbor's name on it. Walked it over there and saw my Target package in front of their door. Left theirs, took mine, and I don't think anyone was the wiser.

(13,566 posts)A while back I had one that said it was delivered and it wasn't on my porch, but the pic showed the neighbors porch well enough that I knew where it was. The neighbor wasn't home, so I walked over and picked it up myself.
