Why did Barr sour on Trump?

Did he find out something that disgusted even him?

--Selling pardons? (Barr could have listened to the wiretapped conversations DoJ made between Trump and others.)

--Collusion with Russia? (Durham could have told him of his findings.)

Whatever it was, it was enough of a shock to Barr that even he balked at blindly supporting Trump by saying the DoJ has no indication of wide-spread voter fraud.

Maybe it was more personal. Did Trump push him too far or disparage him in front of DoJ employees? Did Trump say Catholicism was for suckers and losers?

It must have been something monumental to turn this toady into half-man.

What do you think?

Trump will never really return loyalty. He only expects and receives it.

Now Barr is out there flapping in the breeze staring down accountability for the biggest cover up in US History for what he did to the Mueller report.

Trump wanted Barr to go farther then he was willing to go. Likely Barr knew whatever Trumo had planned wouldn't work and he (Barr) would go be at risk of getting criminally charged once Biden takes office.

Then as the election happened it became clear, he lost. It might have been at that point that Barr refused to do things that were illegal or borderline. The example of saying the DOJ saw no widespread fraud happened after it was clear Biden won.

The motivation could be self preservation or that supporting Trump in just ignoring a legitimate election was a step too far as it clearly is a traitorous action.

Trump is no long a pawn in Barr's agenda if Trump no longer has power to use as a backdrop for advancing Barr's worldview.

If you think Trump needed and used Barr, I think you have it backward.

Tue Dec 8, 2020, 12:01 PM

I think Barr was tasked with infiltrating the administration by a Russian oligarch client to stabilize the situation. Remember how, out of the blue, Barr wrote a 40-page love letter to reel Trump in? With the election over and Trump out of power, I think Barr's been told to let it all slide.

I'm not going to 100% agree that it was a Russian oligarch, but "whoever" was behind Barr writing the op-ed and decided that Barr had to act as cover for Trump, decided they were done with Trump. Its likely because he lost and "they" told Barr to hold that interview and say there was no fraud because the country would be over if they seriously tried to overturn the results.

Written on June 8, 2018 and it was supporting Trump against Mueller's claim of obstruction. But it was an odd thing to do and appeared to be an attempt to ingratiate himself with Trump. Barr had financial and client connections with a variety of Russian interests that raised concerns he should recuse himself from any oversight in the Mueller investigation so I'm figuring someone an arms-length from Putin may have been his client.

We worried that the AG was acting as Trump's personal lawyer and I think he wasn't, but he certainly wasn't acting as the country's. I think we can agree on that.

My thought is that he just couldn't come up with anything that he was willing to bring up in front of the Court without possibly facing legal sanctions. He already got pretty burned by the attempts to drop the criminal case against Flynn (before the pardon)

I think Barr despises Trump and everything he stands for. Yes, Barr is a Republican and doesn’t hide it. Yes, Barr has pissed off scores of staff attorneys and Democrats. But, after you push past the obvious Trump ass kissing Barr does, the DOJ is still holding as an institution not destroyed by Trump.

Tue Dec 8, 2020, 03:04 PM

I'd bet self-preservation was at the top of the list. Barr was the one to quote 'history is written by the victors,' a quip often attributed to Churchill, Goring and a host of others throughout history.

But he was pretty smug and confident when he said it. Now? Not so much.

Maybe stealing a presidential election was one step too far, even for a toady like Barr. Or maybe he discovered something that could snare his own future in a net of criminality.

I certainly won't be sad to see him waddle out the door.

There's no morals involved here. It's all power and prestige.

If Barr thought Trump was gonna win, he'd still be up his ass.
